COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The English breweries would brew if they played football the right way. This Extra Special Ale takes a classic style and gives it an American twist. Enjoy the complex malt profile and layers of sublime English hops.

July 8, 2011 - with blankboy, JoeMcPhee, jerc and mabel. Bomber c/o of blankboy. Slightly hazy amber with a smallish off-white head. Odd aroma - paint, floral bitterness, sweet and candyish. Taste is more like a golden ale, grassy with oily cereal grain, again oddly sugary, but at least there is more bitterness in the flavour - dry, stale and a bit papery too - (6-). Astringent, weak carbonation, watery, with a long slightly harshly bitter finish - odd aftertaste too. Erm ...

22oz bottle-pours amber with a tan head. Aroma is nutty/cocoa-barley/medium malt/oats, some spice. Taste is roasty/nutty/cocoa-barley/medium malt/oats, some spice/earthy hops. Not what I expected, and out of the style box to my view, but probably in the hoppy English Brown Ale category. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle shared by John. Pours dark amber brown with off white head. Nose and taste of barley, oats, cocoa and nuts. Hints of wet sock on the nose. Some wort. Medium body.

(bottle - 22 oz) Slightly hazy orange pour with a thin white head. Grassy and hoppy aroma with a very light and mild caramel backbone. Balances quite nicely. Flavor is a bit malty at the start that gives way quickly to a lightly floral and peppery finish. Nicely balanced and easy to drink.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized yellow tan colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a typically carbonated transparent light brown colored body and a good lacing. The aroma was malty and woody. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish hoppy aftertaste. The bubbly flavor contained notes of mild brown malt and hops. An OK brew just nothing special.

22 oz. bottle from Table and Vine for $6.99. Poured a curious hazy orange. Respectable head and lace. Pleasing aromas of grassy hops and bread like malt. You can notice the dry hopping of an English / Euro hop in the finish. It’s nicely balanced with caramel and bready malt. Medium in body with normal Co2. This brew was a nice change of pace for me personally however, just a bit above average overall.

Bomber from Half Time. Pours dark copper with a 4 finger foamy/creamy beige head. All I can smell out of the foam is light roast malt and maybe something floral. Med body. The roast malt has that characteristic brown ale flavor. It does have some hop bitter, but the malt really controls this. It’s not sweet, just that the bitter comes more from malt than hop (I think). On the other hand there’s a fair amount of floral, so ... I just think the malt should be subserviant, not dominant.

bottle... light copper with orange hue, dark toppe head, only leaves a watery ring... lots of English yeast, generic English aroma overall, musky caramel, average... the taste is terrible, stale grass, chalky, bitter in the wrong way, tea like finish... pass

Pours clear deep amber into a shaker. White head with little retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet caramel and dough aromas. Soft and dry with sweet sourdough and upfront turning nutty in the lasting bitter grapefruit pith finish.
