Chocolate, coffee, and a little vegetable in the aroma. Flavor is chocolate, toffee, and maybe a little apple. Some coffee bitterness in the finish. Overall, a pretty solid effort.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pilsener. The appearance was a decent looking black color with a two finger white to off white and possibly even tan (depending upon who looked at it) head. This head dissipated within about a minute and left a decent lacing here and there, messy, but hey it was there. The smell had some light coffee grounds with a semi-decent rolling chocolate underneath. The taste was bitter, roasty and sweet from the previously mentioned flavors. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body and came across fairly sessionable for the most part. It came across fairly smooth and slightly creamy across my tongue. Overall, I say this was a good schwarzbier. Thanx Josh for the second bottle.

22 oz. bottle. Pours black with a moderate-large tan head that lasted though the first quarter of the glass and left ample lace. Pleasant aroma of molasses. The flavor is molasses along with some lightly roasted malt. Mild bitterness at the finish. A little rough on the palate; not as smooth as I would like in a lager. Medium bodied.

Bombers from Capone’s and Wegman’s. Pours dark blackish with ruby edges and minimal splotchy tan head. Nose is roasty dark malt, cacao, nuts, hops, and mild dark fruity wafts. Tastes dark malty, with a mouthfeel that comes off like a hoppier, nuttier, sweeter schwarzbier. Very smooth finish.

2013-11-29. Dark brown body with a small tan head. 3+ Aroma is toasty and roasty. Flavour is similar, dry, roasty, sort of minerally and metallic. Average bodied palate, modest carbonation. Decent but just okay. Bottle shared by HogTownHarry

Deep mahogany color with lush, caramel head. Bouquet dances with walnuts which continues on to the body. Sharply and thoroughly nutty, with pieces of black walnut. Toasty. Traces of bitter black malt. Not bad.

[Bottle (660ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o HogTownHarry] Pours dark brown, almost black, with a spare diminishing frothy beige head. Aroma has some light smoke, hops, toasted malt and sweet dark fruit. Flavour is malty along with some chocolate and just a hint of smoke. Average bodied. Pretty good.

Bomber. Pours a clear dark brown body with a one finger fizzy light brown head that had pretty nice retention. The nose is not especially Schwarzbier like, this doesn’t smell clean and well lagered at all. There’s a bit of a husky vegetal note that pervades the slightly sweet chocolate and roasty malt base. A little lacking in the hops department as well, a little bit of bitterness could cover up some of the off-notes. The flavor is lightly roasty with a little licorice and a vegetal finish. I really wish there was a more aggressive hopping used in here. Light to medium bodied with a fairly watery texture and fizzy carbonation. Can’t say that this one does it for me too much, and it’s a style that I generally really like.
