2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
In short: A straightforward golden beer with a ferrous sensation. Meh.
How: Botlle 22oz, consumed a few months after purchase.
The look: Clear pale-golden body topped by a large white head with medium retention.
In long: Nose is ferrous and also borderline rustic, a mix between scrapyard rusting metals and dusty attic, kind of strange. Taste is also very ferrous, rusty metal sensation, toasted husky grains, some toasted sugars, plenty of minerals, dried fruits (no juicy fresh fruits flavors here). Dry astringent ferrous finish with a mild herbal bitterness. A abundant carbonation with very hard bubbles adds an underired acidity sensation. Of the few California Commons I’ve had (an infrequent style) about half of them had this ferrous/rusty and mineral water flavor to them. Not too sure what to make of it, this beer was kind of off. Not my favorite brewery. Some people don’t know it, but there are cheaper ways to have people look down on you than buying a full case of Three Heads beers.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear golden with a weak white head. The aroma is citrus hops, bread, banana, and grass. I detect some sourness as well. The taste contains bread, lemon, apple, along with some floral flavors. Strangely, it still it is still kind of sour. Short bready and lemon aftertaste. LIght in body, thin in texture, with average carbonation. It is crisp and easy to drink. I though this was pretty good. Maybe unspectacular, but good enough to drink again without any hesitation.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured a honey gold with a good head of foam from a vigorous pour that fell to some crags and really great lace. Nose is fruity hops, a little sour, a little skunk. Malt is caramel and grain. Good lager nose but starts to fall apart as it warms. The hops go grassy and catty and the spice character which is very faint goes sour in the nose. Malt gets breaddier but like sourdough. Taste is breaddy malt with a try at some sweet citrus in back. It puckers from bitter fruit because the lemon got pithy. Husky, grainy malt this is no girlie beer. Finished dry with plenty of full bodied malt. Drank ok but not great because of hops going sour and a taste of corn on the back palate. It was mildly astringent and even a little metallic. Can live without this one.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bombers from Wegman’s and Capone’s. Pours turbid orange with 2-finger frothy off-white head. Nose is tropical fruity, caramel malt, hopcitric. Tastes of caramel malt up front with piney hops and notes of tangerine and mango. Pretty dense on the palate and pretty complex for a lager. This one is very good.

Draft from Whole Foods. Tastes like a superior lager for sure - altho I see RB is calling it a California Common. Fresh and tasty, a little like a pale ale. Nice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 1/3/13
Aroma: The nose has some citrus, German-style hops, yeast, spice, grains, and bread
Appearance: Pours a mostly clear orange color with a bubbly white head and some scattered lace
Flavor: Tastes grainy, light-mid sweet with some spice, some citrus, and a mildly bitter finish
Palate: The body is light-medium, it drinks nicely/easily, with average carbonation, and a light dry finish
This is a very solid lager as far as I’m concerned. It’s a nice, sessionable (or close enough for government work) beer. There’s nothing super standout here, but nothing about it really disappoints either. Very solid.
