Nice dark pour. Can't figure the taste and aroma of this beer. Has coffee and seems Like a hint of alcohol on the nose. It tastes of really bad sweetened iced coffee.

Pours a luscious coffee brown that lets in a peek of caramel daylight at the bottom and has a thick, if not overly persistent, tan head. Roast malt has a strong overtone of roast quality coffee and a hint of molasses. Hops and a snip of spice come through in the delightful roast coffee flavor - this is very like a "black" IPA. I love hoppy beers and dark beers, so this is indeed a good three-way marriage! Texture lacks firmness and fizz; but it leaves a nice finish of quality coffee, roast malt, and woody hops. Java this sutra on your tongue!

Bottle from shelf. Pours a deep brown, almost black with a scant head. Aromas of straight up coffee. Not much else in the nose. Taste is bitter and semi dry. Flavors of coffee, coffee and more coffee. Can almost taste the grinds. This is basically lightly carbonated black iced coffee with a touch of creamer. Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s just what it is. If you need your coffee fix with alcohol, this is the beer for you. Probably the most coffee forward beer I’ve ever had.

On tap at the Distillery. Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, sweet malt, chocolate. Flavor of sweet malt, roasted malt, light char, light coffee grounds. Not very impressed by this one - a sweet porter with very little coffee notes. 6/4/5/3/11 (2.9/5)

Sample at Kurtkeller 005: Coffee-tastic 01 on 02/08/2014. This beer is a dark reddish-brown color with a medium creamy beige head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted coffee, caramel and malt. Medium body with flavors of chocolate malt, espresso and a touch of resiny hops. The finish is roasty with a mocha aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Poured from 22oz bottle at home. Black color. Tan head fluffy. Chocolate, raisin, sweet aroma. Choclate, coffee, earthy and slightly hopppy taste. Really good and straightforward

2013.01.25-Three Heads Java Sutra Not a detailed review... Just tired of this in my fridge. About exactly what I expected. Right down the middle, mostly unremarkable. Heavy on the coffee taste, lighter on the porter. Satisfying enough but not compelling. 5/3/5/3/13

Pours a lovely black with a tan head. Has a subtle coffee aroma. Taste is straight bitterness and coffee but leaves a clean finish.

Bottle. Sweet milk chocolate aroma. Deep mahogany with a small beige head. Milk chocolate, mocha and light ashy flavor. Body on the light side of medium, soft carbonation.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1pt. 6oz bottle into a pint glass. The label lists the abv (6.5%) and the IBUs (55). There is no freshness date however. Appearance: It pours dark brown and looks nearly black in the glass with some reddish brown highlight. This is topped by and small but long lasting tan foam head. As I drink it slowly settles to a thin film covering and on the way down the glass it makes some nice spotty lace with a few rings of lacing at the top. Smell: There is a good deep roasted bready maltiness in the nose which is complemented with big coffee and chocolate notes. Taste/Palate: The body is right on for a big Porter. It brings deep roasted maltiness with loads of coffee notes, as well as dark and milk chocolate notes to the tongue. Hop flavor also adds some decent bitterness. On the plate it feels smooth and little creamy but on heavy at all. It is still well carbonated and very drinkable. Notes: This is a very well made Porter with good balance all around.
