Bottle. Copper pour with a tall, frothy tan head. Strong spicy hops and citrus dominate the aroma with subtle earthy hops and caramel in the background. Taste is also strong spicy hops, floral notes, citrus, caramel, earthy hops and light nuttiness. Body is medium with a strong, creamy carbonation. Finishes with more citrus, spicy hops, floral notes, tropical fruit, caramel and soft earthy hops. Decent hop bomb and an unexpected one at that!

Caramel, pine, citrus, and nuts in the aroma. Sweet, fruity flavor, with spice and pine bitterness in the finish. To me, more like an IPA than an amber, but still very good.

Bomber. An amber beer that is clear and sports a nice three finger beige head. An aroma that is full of citrusy hops and oatmeal. Malts are almost buried. The flavor brings out those hops nicely. They are nicely bitter and citrus with some pine. They are definitely the star of this show. Oatmeal is interesting here. Malts play second fiddle. Not sure why this was not called an IPA because it pretty much is one. It is a tasty one, too.

On tap at McFaddens beer fest. Pours a nice amber with a thin head. The aroma is malty sweet with some caramel. The flavor has the typical Red aspect but is enhanced with a nice hop presence. Finishes very dry and refreshing.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy orange copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, orange zest, lemon zest, pear, apple, caramel, biscuit, oats, floral, grass, light pine, and floral earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, orange zest, pear, caramel, biscuit, toffee, oats, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Light amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest, pineapple, pear, caramel, biscuit, oats, toffee, floral, grass, light pine, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice amber ale. Good balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Hazy amber color in the glass. Holds a tan head nicely. Syrupy sweet aroma with pine and resin hop notes. Fairly bitter palate with crystal malt sweetness that lingers on the finish. Interesting beer, if not a slight bit heavy handed.

Bottle. Pours a clear ruby amber with a large creamy yellowed beige head. Crisp and clean citrus on the nose, hoppy and bright, not overly pungent though. Medium bodied, smooth and lightly sweet. Picks up a faint metallic tinge, oatmeal smoothing out everything, earthy with some dank hoppiness. The creamy sweet body is an interesting change from the standard red ale. Balanced fairly well, gentle hoppy bitterness on the finish, almost the faintest hint of cocoa as well. Easy drinking.

UPDATED: JUL 13, 2012 10 rating. I’m in, team tubes. Pours a deep red, rusty color with an initially large head that fade fast. Piney hops in the nose. Taste is bitter, mouthfeel is slick and slightly chewy. Strong malty backbone. Decent amber ale, but slightly overpriced (all 3HB beers are) and not outstanding. Having said that, this is hands down the best beer made in Rochester, NY.

Another blackipa gem. Great head and lacing on this amber beer. You’ll be happy if that’s your thing. Graham cracker, oat, earthy hops, citrus, a touch of pine all in the nose. Odd mouthfeel, but I actually like it for a change.

(bottle - 22 oz) Copper pour with a creamy looking white head. Hoppy and citrusy aroma . Flavor begins with a good citrus hop flavor with a slightly dry and fruity bitterness. Oatmeal isn’t very apparent but that doesn’t matter to me. Really great citrus and floral hop flavor.
