East coast vs west coast...a battle that has been waged for years in many forms. Now there arises a brew that strives to unite the two sides. This IPA bursts with an inviting hop aroma in conjunction with a carefully selected monastic yeast strain. It delivers unexpected, yet delectable flavor. Case closed?

Bottle. Poured a hazy pale with a frothy off-white head that settled to a ring with time and left light lace. Aroma was yeast, spice, and hop background. The flavor found much the same; Belgium yeast, citrus hop, and light spices. Medium body, medium bitterness throughout, and a Belgium aftertaste. Decent Belgium IPA, but almost a little overdone on the yeast presences.

Super hazy golden coloured body with a bit of a honey glow and a thick, dense soapy tan head. Aroma of very nice pale and grassy hop notes, some yeast and light coriander seed spiciness. Medium-bodied; Grassy, herbal hoppy flavour at first with some yeast and malt behind and very little in complexity. Aftertaste shows mostly hoppy notes with some unfinished wort type flavours and a little alcohol dryness near the end. Overall, an okay beer - about what Iíd expect from Custom Brewcrafter beers and about right from Rochester. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Oliverís Beverage in Albany, New York on 18-November-2011 for US$6.99 sampled at home in Washington on 23-December-2011.

This beer was bad. The hops tasted sour. It was over carbonated and took about 15 minutes to pour, glass was all head with just a few drops. Palate was bitter straight through. Just horrible.

Pours mostly clear medium yellow with a short lived sticky white head. Funky sweet malt aroma with some citrus hops. Interesting aroma a little off the norm that I actually like. Lightly bitter but the malt is there too. Very sessionable IPA.

bottle... hazy medium gold, a bit of orange, nice head, off white, good retention and lace... the nose and taste are both overly yeasty, harsh finish

Three Heads Ontario Coast IPA is a very sparkling, hazy, golden ale topped with a huge, fluffy, yellow-white foam. The retention is incredible and the lacing is great. Wow, this head looks like... well, kind of like Lake Ontario. The aroma is spicy and fruity, estery and a touch sweet. This doesnít really smell like an IPA to me. It smells Belgian. There are notes of grass and phenol. Itís pretty big bodied, foamy and smooth. Itís pretty lively and the finish is clean. This is not what I was expecting, but it tastes good. This is what Iíd call a Belgian IPA, like La Chouffe Houblon or Raging Bitch. Yeah, itís quite phenolic, past bacon and stopping just short of band-aids. It tastes fruity, grassy, funky and bitter. The long, bitter aftertaste kind of burns the tongue and tastes a little like juniper. There is orange, apple and some kind of tropical fruit in the taste, but itís hard to tell because the phenol flavor kind of dominates everything. I must admit that this beer is a little disappointing. The rest of the 3HB offerings have been excellent, but this is a beer I wouldnít drink again on purpose.

22oz - The pick of the litter for me. Nice effervescence, enough malt, good shot of hops. Being fresh and local doesnít hurt either.

Bomber - Although not advertised as such, this is a Belgian IPA with a very distinctive yeast, very foamy head which masked some of the aroma, but has a nice lingering hop finish to it. Price point at $6.50 for the bomber is on the high side compared to other BPA/IPAs.

Bomber. Pours slightly hazy and bright apricot-colored, lively, with a creamy 3-finger beige head with long retention. The aroma is sweet orangepeel and grapefruit, Belgian yeast and sugar, and some bubblegum. The flavor is Belgian yeast and orangepeel upfront, lightly sweetened. This trends toward bitter grapefruit pith, slight alcohol, and some papaya sweetness. Low to medium carbonation and body, nearly creamy, and a bit warming. I had no idea this was a Belgian-style IPA, but itís good, and nicely balanced. [775]

(draft @ Tap and Mallet - Rochester, NY) Hazy gold pour with a fluffy white head. Citrusy and spicy hops in the aroma with a very mild Belgian spice note underneath. Rather grassy. Flavor is a nice citrus and floral combination with that same very light and mild yeast spice. Bitter and citrusy finish with a mild yeast bitterness.
