An orange amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a crisp caramel malt with light mineral notes, treacle, OK. In mouth, a sweet fruity caramel malt with light mineral notes, light grassy hops, OK. On tap at Brooklyn Pour 2013.

Very light bodied for a Scotch Ale. Also not very hop bitter. Medium brown color with limited head. Second rate compared to our local Founderís Dirty Bastard.

22 oz. bottle. Dark ruby color. Nose is toffee and old peated malt. Flavors of raisins, Earthy malt and again old peat. Medium in body with an off fruit note in there as well. Texture is oily. Iím thinking this is an old bottle because the flavors are off.

2.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draught at Hopcat in Grand Rapids, MI. Not much of an aroma. Pours a copper brown with a thin off white head. Itís malty, nutty, with a slight note of coffee. Moderate hop finish. This brew falls somewhere between complex and peculiar. Itís not true to style. It seems more like an amber than a scotch. Definitely a decent beer aside from itís shortcomings.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This reminded me more of a vienna than a wee heavy, as it was reddish-brown in color and fairly strong in the caramel/toffee flavors. Certainly doesnít have any of the super malty/peatiness youíd expect of a wee heavy. Also seems to stick to the tongue. A significant hop finish. Strange brew.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Location: Sampled at Tap NY, 4/27/13
Aroma: The nose is toffee/caramel, some bready malts, earth/pine, and nuts
Appearance: It pours a reddish-amber color with a small beige head
Flavor: The taste is not as sweet as this style normally is, with a decent hop component
Palate: The body is medium, it has a smooth feel and drinks pretty easily
This one is an interesting example of the style. It seemed more balanced than others, which was a welcome differentiation.

2.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber purchased for $6.79 on sale. This beer looked like a scotch ale, but flavor was off balance. A little too bready and is missing the smoky, malty spiciness of the great American Scotch ales. This oneís easy drinking, though. I gave it a fairly low score, but I took a few points off for the relatively high price.

Bottle. Pours amber with an off white head. Sweet toffee malts, breads notes, and a light earthy bitterness. Smooth, balanced, and drinkable.
