Bottle. Pours a clear ruby with a thin white head. Soft malt on the nose, a touch of light hops. Medium-bodied, a bit of paper comes through over some oxidized plum and old malt notes. Finishes with some malt and a bit of sweetness. Decent enough.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
22 oz. bottle. Dark ruby color. Nose is toffee and old peated malt. Flavors of raisins, Earthy malt and again old peat. Medium in body with an off fruit note in there as well. Texture is oily. I’m thinking this is an old bottle because the flavors are off.

2.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draught at Hopcat in Grand Rapids, MI. Not much of an aroma. Pours a copper brown with a thin off white head. It’s malty, nutty, with a slight note of coffee. Moderate hop finish. This brew falls somewhere between complex and peculiar. It’s not true to style. It seems more like an amber than a scotch. Definitely a decent beer aside from it’s shortcomings.

This reminded me more of a vienna than a wee heavy, as it was reddish-brown in color and fairly strong in the caramel/toffee flavors. Certainly doesn’t have any of the super malty/peatiness you’d expect of a wee heavy. Also seems to stick to the tongue. A significant hop finish. Strange brew.
