Rochestafarian n. 1. A beer, malty in nature, brewed to honor Rochester, NY. Like the city’s fine funky music, this sweet, full bodied, slightly bitter brew is sure to sway the soul and bring about a feeling of Irie. 2. One who loves 3HB.

22 oz - Impulse buy. I dig the Scotch Ale, and this one is true to the style. Sweet malt with dominant wood notes. Forgettable

Ugh. What is that? Did the brewer ferment this or pull it out of the trash? Heavy ester, phenolic and fusel notes round out a grainy malt profile. Based on the nose, this should be an outstanding, if malt slick beer, but the palate is over sweet and barely swallowable. I know it’s not the water, because there are a lot of good cleanly fermented beers coming out of the rochester and finger lakes areas. Looks and tastes like custom brewcrafters needs some lessons in what a wee heavy should and should not taste like. In general, it shouldn’t taste like barley garbage water.

Whoa, the aroma is plastic, spoiled vegetables, currants, none of which should be in a wee heavy. Hazy copper, thick cream colored head. Bleh, flavor is spoiled vegetables, plastic, and fingernail polish. Oh boy, this is very bad. Bottle is undated, but these flaws are not attributable to age. Bad beer happens sometimes.

EtTuCthulhu (992) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - MAY 17, 2014
The aroma is reminiscent of caramel and toasted malts, dougy yeast, and a hint of vanilla, and the appearance is a cloudy reddish orange with a small off-white head. The taste is mildly sour, a touch umami, and slightly bitter, and the balance just isn’t there; furthermore, the palate is uncomplementary due to the thin and slick texture, medium-light body, soft carbonation, and a sour finish.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy ruby red color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toast, brown sugar, raisin, plum, strawberry, pear, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and solid complexity of dark malt and fruity yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, brown sugar, light roast, raisin, plum, strawberry, pear, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown sugar, light roast, raisin, plum, strawberry, pear, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Good balance of dark malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; with solid robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is very thin for the style, but otherwise solid. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a decent beer. Definitely not anywhere near the scotch ale style with the interesting yeast fruitiness and thin mouthfeel, but was pretty enjoyable otherwise. More of an estery brown ale.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a mostly clear amber with a thin-moderate tan head that lasts through the first quarter of the glass and leaves scant lace. The aroma is weak caramel and not much else. The flavor is weak caramel and really not much esle. Short, somewhat dry finish accompanied by mild bitterness. Lighter in body than one would expect for a Wee Heavy. This one is just Wee.

Flat and syrupy. Not much to the look, aroma is buttered bread. Taste is sweet a little bannana and lots of sugar. Not my favorite.

Pours clear amber into a thistle. Off-white head with good retention recedes leaving scant sheets. Mild nutty caramel aromas. Sweet dark caramel and butterscotch upfront turning dry in the earthy medium length finish. More of an English strong..

Everyone who has already rated this is generally correct; Rochestafarian manifests as a too-thin-to-be-Heavy-by-any-estimation beer, with much brown ale aspects to it. In fact, the beer that this most resembles that I enjoy is Newcastle, so I think the guys need to try harder with the beer and worry less about the enticing bottle art……. three heads are not necessarily better than one.

chinchill (1617) - South Carolina, USA - FEB 4, 2014
Undated 12 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Aroma and flavor reflect a Scotch Ale that is a bit mild, sweet and caramelized for style. Fruity, with a light hint of smoke coming out at the finsih. Smooth with low carbonation.

Malty, sweet, nutty with a caramel-like sweetness. Watery, long finish. A bit disappointing overall.
