Bottle shared with Sean. Pours a deep brown with fluffy beige head and lacing. Notes of roasted, chocolate, pine, coffee. Medium mouthfeel, sweet with a little hop and roasted malt bitterness. Tasted more like a hoppy porter than an IPA but a pretty solid beer none the less.

Bottle. Pours clear black with dark brown highlights, a medium to small, bubbly and frothy light tan head, short retention with good lacing. Aroma is earthy and citrus hops, raisin and prune esters, roast and chocolate malt. Flavor is heavy hops and bitterness, dark chocolate and roast malt, dark fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Bottle. Not sure about the name of this one ... not exactly enticing. But it does kinda match those colors when it pours ... stark black with a shiny white, furry head of foam. The aroma is mostly of roasted malt to my untrained nostrils. But this drinks with a nice little kiss of bitter chocolate, then a little bit of grassy tanginess. (#4955, 3/11/2013)

ben4321 (3864) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAR 8, 2013
Location: 22 oz bottle from State Line, 3/8/13

Aroma: The nose is nice and piny with some roast, caramel, citrus, and chocolate
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a small head and some light lace
Flavor: The taste is clean and hoppy, light-mid bitterness, and some lightly sweet roasted malts
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, average-to-soft carbonation, and a clean, dry finish
Overall Impression: Very solid Black IPA. It isn’t super hoppy, but the hops are nice and clean. Good stuff for sure.

Bottle from spirits Manahawkin. Pours an almost black brown color with a small white head. Aroma is of citrus hops, lightly toasted bread, grass clippings and light chocolate. Taste is cocoa, tasted malts, a decent kick of citrusy hops, chocolate brownie mix, mild roast and some odd earthy/peppery notes.

Bottle. Very dark brown pour with a dense, foamy brown head. Aroma is soft roasted malt, light citrus and piney hops and dark chocolate. Taste is more roasted malt, dark chocolate, citrus fruit, pine and floral hops. Body is medium with a moderate, dense carbonation. Light bitterness lingering throughout. Finishes with more roasted malt, dark chocolate, pine resin, citrus notes and floral hops.

Draft at Railroad Street. Poured hazy black with tan head. Nose was roasty patent malt, resiny hops. Tasted rich, hoppy, with a solid roasty black patent malt component, nicely balanced hops, and some cacao and blackberry notes late.

thedm (4935) - Fort Wayne, USA - DEC 30, 2012
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a extremely large sized head of cascading foam fine to medium sized dark tan colored bubbles that were and left behind a softly carbonated semi-transparent dark brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The aroma was mild malt. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow biting hoppy black malt aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of mild biting hops black malt and dark malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

651mL from Norms. Pours clear brown :/ with a medium lighter tan head. Soapy, delicate lace. Nose is lemon scented detergent, cleaning product, toast. Taste is quite bitter but astringently so... Like sucking on tree bark. Oversteeped tea character. Hard to enjoy. Very harsh. Very soapy and chemical feeling.

On cask @ beer authority. Pours thick and creamy with a huge cappuccino colored head. Very dark. The aroma is strange. Filled with hops and some sweetness but Parmesan cheese? Wtf? Anyway on tha palate it’s nicely balanced but uninteresting. Pretty decent.
