Our mamas always taught us that you can never be too polite. In their honor, we decided to test that theory with the Too Kind. It has everything you love from the Kind IPA but jacked up to an out-of-this-world level. A hop exuberance of pine, citrus and love that plays nice with others.

This beer confounds me a bit. Having serious potential to be really good, its unfortunate flaws knock it down. At first whiff, the aroma is a bit malty with a hint of floral/spicy hops. Underlying this however, is a green apple smell. This caries into the flavor and overall taste of the beer. I can’t say for certain, but I suspect this beer was not properly aged. Otherwise, something else has caused a similar effect. The body is a bit thin as well. Honestly, this reminds me of homebrew... in a good way for the most part, tasting fresh and very vibrant.

Frosty yellow; cloudy like pineapple juice. The head is massive, like a meringue. The lacing is spectacular. It is just beautiful to look at. Aromatic notes of flowers and herbs. The hops are woody and dank. Just a touch of lemon/citrus rind, but just a touch. Very pleasant, not a lot to go by though. The flavor is very earthy malts, very dirt/soil-like Then very herbal hops: more like a spice than citrus or wood. A touch of mushroom? Pleasant but definitely not amazing. The feel is ashy and dry. This is a very earthy, herbal beer. It’s no surprise given all the tie-dyes on the label. It’s very solid, just not a mind-blower.

12 oz bottle from BOTW (Rochester), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear deep golden with a decent white head. Aroma: Very sweet and malty, lightly phenolic/peppery, dusty/musty, lots of pine/resin, fairly fruity – berries and tropical fruits, a touch of booze, so sweet. Palate: Medium+ body, syrupy, fairly low carbonation. Flav.: Very dusty/musty with moderate resin, peppery, quite sweet, moderately fruity, quite malty; sweet with fairly firm bitterness and a decidedly dusty, resinous finish.

Wasn’t too kind to my palate.

12oz bottle of blah. Poured a crisp clear golden body under a smaller foamy white head. Aroma/flavor of grains, alcohol, dry grassy hops, old citrus rinds, rust abd alcohol. Medium to fuller body, average mouthfeel, meh this is not good.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2014 Aroma is piney with a citrus touch and some malt. Flavor pretty much follows suit but without the strong malty flavors. Pretty good.

Pours gold into a shaker. White head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Sour caramel aromas. Bready with cooked vegetables and toasted nuts. Not good.

PorterPounder (6197) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - SEP 2, 2014
Savannah, Ga - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - Abercorn St. - 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly sparkling medium golden, little to no head. Aroma has a touch of homebrew too-much crystal malt funkiness, a wisp of pine. Flavor is full-bodied with some caramel accents, a touch of syrupy citrus bitterness, a slight trace of booziness. Mouthfeel has a solid thickness to it.
