Tasting at the ever gracious ChrisO’s. Lightly hazy gold beer, good white head. Palate is light and airy with fine carbonation. Airy clean malts, touch of sweetness. Hops are decent mix of bitterish pine, light skunk and resinous citrus, grapefruit most prominent. Light dry finish with a bitter linger. Nice.

Bottle. Amber pour with a medium, frothy white head. Strong floral notes, tropical fruit and caramel in the nose. Taste is big tropical and citrus fruit, floral hops, caramel, sweet malt and toffee notes. Body is medium with a dense, creamy carbonation and strong lingering hop bitterness. Slight warmth from the alcohol. Finishes with more tropical fruit, citrus fruit, hop resins, soft pine, floral notes, caramel sweet malt, boozy notes and light toffee.

Bottle at Chriso. It pours hazy golden with a small white head. The nose is fresh, piney, varnish, sherbet, orange peel, passion fruit, sherbet and mango. The taste is bitter, citric, orange peel, passion fruit, mango, light spice and warming alcohol with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A touch hot perhaps. Crisp and citric. Decent.

Poured hazy orange in color with a nicely lacing head. Big time aroma of citrus and piney hops. Not overly bitter for a triple IPA but certainly a palate wrecker.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 5/9/14

Aroma: The aroma is full of hops, pine, a little citrus, slight chemical notes and caramel
Appearance: It pours a murky orange color with a white head and medium-heavy lace
Flavor: Pretty hoppy flavor-wise, not overly bitter, caramel, and those chemical notes
Palate: The body is medium, it drinks nicely, with a pretty clean mouthfeel, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was an alright beer, but it has some unfortunate flaws that keep it from getting a higher score. I’d like to try it again, because I know Three Heads can make a great IPA, and this just wasn’t that beer. Maybe it was just this bottle. Didn’t get there for me.

Big and powerful in body and alcohol, but a little lax in the flavor department. I just don’t get enough assorted hop aroma and flavor from this beer. It seems one-dimensional. The beer pours a hazy orange color with a modest off-white head. The head leaves some really nice, sticky lacing around the inside of the glass. I get the hops and the caramel malt in the nose and the flavors, but the overall impression I keep going back to is semi-bland.

Bottle to glass. Pours a slightly hazy golden light orange color with a thin off white head. Aroma is light caramel sweetness, some fleshy fruit hops, a bit astringent. Flavor is a decent punch of fleshy fruit hops, apricot, peach. Not much alcohol. Light to medium in body, not much in the way of an Imperial IPA, but about right for an IPA. Slight bitter and fruity sweetness lingering into the finish. Not a bad drink. Can’t even tell that it’s 10%!

Draft at Sedona Charlottesville. Pours a clear amber color with a thin creamy tan head. Aroma of big candied lemon, citrus, tropical fruits and a hint of chlorine. The taste is peppery, citrus, tropical hops, caramel malt. Medium bodied.
