COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Single Intent pays tribute to Belgium’s Trappist breweries, which make a lighter-bodied blonde ale that’s set apart for the monks’ personal consumption and not sold—hence the term Patersbier, meaning “father’s beer.” With a spicy, herbal aroma from French Strisselspalt hops, this crisp and complex ale is too good to keep cloistered.

12oz bottle. Clear light amber body with large off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, Belgian spicy, some fruity, light bread. Taste is medium sweet, bread, some spicy, cantaloupe, fairly refreshing and quite drinkable. Light-medium body.

Pours a clear gold with a fizzy one-finger white head. Looks quite carbonated. Aroma is musty yeast, bread, faint malty sweetness. Flavor is a little on the bland side. Start off crisp and slightly spicy, fading into a mild sweetness. This would probably be a good compliment to a meal but on it’s own, it’s a little on the boring side.

Bottle. Nose is full of light citrus esters and sugary adjuncts. Light pear and apricot. Pours a slightly hazy yellow with minimal head. Taste is similar. Slightly sweet with moderate bitterness and some fruity esters coming through in the flavor. No alcohol presence but just a touch sweet for my taste.

Bottle. Pours almost clear with nice white head and lace. Smell is spicy, grassy, herbal, little fruity esters and crisp malt. Light all around. Taste is just as light as the taste with a little more fruitiness coming out. Touch of banana, light spice and breadiness.

1/19/14. 12oz bottle from Five Points. Surprisingly clear light amber copper pour with a small khaki head that fades. Mild aroma, touches of Belgian yeast, pale malts, lightly fruity. Nice flavor, bready, doughy, mild Belgian yeast and fruitiness. Not bad.

bottle. Slightly hazy pour with light white head. Aroma is cereal , slight lemony note, and a touch of sawdust. Taste is definitely belgian style, light malt and lingering bitterness, some notes of citrus pith. Overall a decent light belgian session beer but not mind blowing by any stretch.

This one is surprisingly good. Gold with very slight chill haze, high carbonation, but not a lot of head. Crisp and refreshing, a bit reminiscent of what you’d imagine as some mashup of Belgian ale and a Czech Pilsner. The only thing approaching a flaw is that the lingering bitterness seems a little odd. Maybe a little sulfur in the finish? I like this brewery so far, though.

Single Intent from a fresh growler filled near the brewery. A light-bodied, crisp blonde ale with a rather good head that leaves sparse lacing. Aroma: complex: yeasty, spicy, herbal and hoppy aroma. Flavor: at least as complex as the aroma, but with more banana and fruit, and more bready malts. There’s a lot going on here, and the flavor changes quite a bit from start to finish. Good balance keeps any one component from dominating. O: At least partially succeeds in resembling a product of Belgium’s Trappist breweries, a fully succeeds as a light but aromatic and flavorful Belgian blonde. Refreshing, interesting and recommended.
