White Hops is a nod to Georgia’s forgotten brewing history, taking its name from a mysterious and controversial Atlanta malt beverage sold in 1898. No one knows what the original tasted like, so we used and our imaginations and a Belgian yeast strain to concoct a white IPA, brewed with wheat malt, Citra hops, spices and grapefruit peel. Aromatic and intense, this ale is for hop enthusiasts looking to surpass the ordinary.

On tap at the bar at Hartsfield. Pours slightly unclear gold, with a medium, off-white head. The nose is orange peel, cloves, and butterscotch. Sweet and pretty sharply bitter. Medium body, thick, chewy, and a bit astringent. This is a nice, citrusy hop bomb.

My Bottom Line:
Citrusy hop resins suffuse this IPA’s surprisingly phenolic profile, leading to refreshing bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the golden haze.
-Hop profile develops plenty of lemongrass, white grapefruit and ginger allusions.
-Citra could be mellower to be brighter in this one.
-Bitterness is not too prominent, which increases drinkability in this case.

On tap at their Atlanta airport bar.

Bottle poured a clear gold with a lingering ring of white foam. Aromas of wheat, dank bud, grapefruit zest, yeast and light lemon zest. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of wheat, yeast, citrus and light spice with a crisp dry lingering bitter finish.

Pours a hazy golden yellow on tap with fluffy white head that dissipates to leave moderate lace. Aroma is nice belgian yeast esters under big citrus and wheat notes. Taste is mostly the yeast and the hops, clean and easy, refreshing and light. Really nicely done summer style beer that still has a lot of flavor.

Bottle. This is pretty solid stuff. Hazy deep yellow pour with a minor white head. Lots of citrus in here, plus spices. Somewhat sweet, yet a nice assertive hop bite to it. Finishes remarkably clean. Well done.

A milky, pale yellow. Almost pulpy. High-pitched flavors. Grapefruit, lemon grass, pear. Appreciating the hops alongside these sharp acidic tastes.

12oz bottle, purchased from Habersham in Savannah on 2/23/15. Shared with aabean and friends. Hazy golden yellow color. Little ring of white head. Up front, a refreshing amount of zesty citrusy hop, and witbier spiciness, some belgian yeast... And diacetyl? My first sip, that diacetyl butteriness was noticeable, and still kind of is. It’s not too bad, though. Kind of makes for a lemon-cookie kind of aroma. Friends did not taste any butter. Medium-plus body. Smooth, kind of crisp light to moderate carbonation. Light slick texture. Easy-sipping. Something seems slightly off to me, but a reasonably solid white IPA overall.

Very lemony nose, pencil shavings. Milky golden, thick head, minimal lacing. Grass, lemon, thyme, maybe coriander. Dry, light body, easy carbonation. Enjoyable, but more of BPA than a white IPA.

Nice Belgian IPA. Hazy orange pour. Pear, lemon, Belgian yeast, grapefruit, and spice in the nose. Body was well balanced with hop bitterness, Belgian yeast, banana, pear, lemon. Light bodied. Good stuff.

2/5/15. On tap at Bleu Pub. Hazed orange pour, nice off-white head, good lacing. Nice aroma, Citra pops nicely, very fruity, mixes well with the yeast, spice, lots of citrus. Great flavor, not too bitter, lots of hop character, tons of citrus, mixes well with Belgian yeast. Tasty!
