Tasted on cask at a Wetherspoons in Shrewsbury (Feb 2011). A golden bitter with a white, light head. The aroma and taste lean towards maltiness, comprising nutty and coffee flavours, leading to an oak wood like esters. It has a spicy bitterness with a lingering finish. Considering it is only 3.8% ABV the packs a lot of complex flavours and is an ideal session beer: like so many well crafted UK bitters.

On cask at The Congress, Longton. Dark golden pour with an off white head. Nutty, spicy and complex for its strength. I wish all best bitters were this good.

Cask, Peterborough Fest 10. Golden with a thin foam. Aromas are biscuit and melon with spicy, herbal hops. Cereal malts with hints of woody pine. Flavours are dry biscuit malts with plenty of yeast and grassy hops. Pretty dry on the finish with pithy bitterness. Good.

Cask conditioned at Coventry Beer Festival ’08. Gold with white head. Light malty and dry bitter, slightly thinnish with a bready aroma and taste. All a little understated really, not one to blow the socks off but quite sessionable. Ok.

Cask (handpump) at the Three Tuns, Bishops Castle, Shropshire, October 2005. A straw coloured session bitter. Not much aroma. Mellow and easy drinking. Soft malt dominates the palate, with low bitterness. Like the Three Tuns XXX that I tried just before it, there was a degree of sweetness that doesn’t sit too comfortably in this style of beer. A decent pint nonetheless, served in cracking condition.
