Cask; Regular.
A renowned beer from a recipe passed down by the Roberts family who owned the brewery for several generations; a pale-straw-coloured, premium bitter with simple, light malty-sweetness, delicately balanced with light bitterness of floral, earthy character.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 23/6/08. Deep gold in colour with a thin white head that left plenty of lacing down the glass. Aroma of strawberries, orange and a touch of caramel. Flavour was bitter, with some biscuit malt, red fruit and a long dry, bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Half pint pulled at The Church Inn in Ludlow (Shropshire), very lively, a bright gold with a white head. A fresh fruity aroma. Juicy fruit in the mouth, ligthly hopped.

Cask conditioned at The White Lion, Upton upon Severn, Worcs. Pale straw with white head. Thinnish dry bitter, biscuity malt with a touch of hop in a drying bitter finish. Lacks body pehaps but still a reasonable attempt.

Cask (handpump) at the Three Tuns, Bishops Castle, Shropshire, October 2005. What better place to drink this than at the Three Tuns itself, one of the great British drinking establishments, now back to top form after a rather chequered history in recent years. Pale amber colour. Slight diacetyl butterscotch in the aroma. Initial mouth hit is sweetish becoming drier and more hoppy later on. Fruity notes throughout. Lingering bittersweet finish.

Wallington Beer Festival. Fresh and juicy with a good citric hop smack. Nothing heavy in any direction, all flavours are strong but delicate and wonderfully integrated. A great breakfast beer.

Cask @ Beer Circus, Croydon. It’s good to see a world beer bar such as this having some English cask ales just to complete the selection, and during a time when they had many Germans on draught they still had two English casks on. The other one was the rather exceptional Dark Star Hop Head. Compared to that this was rather ordinary with a lightly fruity aroma and with flavours of malt and fruit.
