3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
> A surprisingly resilient yeast driven saison with high carbonation
[ Bottle ][ Texas Liquor Carlsbad ][ Size ][ Glass ][ $7 ][ 2/21/14 ]
>> Slow GUSHER. Pours clear deep golden with incredible head formation and retention. See link below. Nose is fresh honey rolls, French bread, dusty yeast attic note, fresh Brie cheese. Taste is mildly hoppy and effervescent with mild sugar and cantaloupe. Feels a bit too yeast chalky taking away from whatever masterpiece lies beneath. But overall, for a probably not fresh bottle of unrefrigerated imported French saison, it drinks pretty good. Normally I would never buy a beer in the shape mentioned above, but say MrChopin’s rating so decided to give it a go. Not disappointed.
<!> heavy yeast, overcarbonated, not fresh

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from 99 Bottles (Federal Way, WA). Light malty sweetnesss, hay, yeast. Hazy honey color with a big fluffy head and lots of floaties. Moderate light honeyish malt, mouldering grass, light spiciness. Medium body with very gentle carbonation. Delicate flavors, fairly well done, not exceptional (as we usually expect from Stillwater).

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Explosively and annoyingly effervescent. It didn’t gush, and if gently poured into a sideways glass, it was calm. Once I tilted the glass upright, the head took off from a torrent of activity at the bottom of the glass. This went on for 5-6 minutes until finally resting, the head craterous and collapsed with gobs of sudsy lacing all over. Half the 12oz bottle had been lost.
Dusty grain nose with tons of pear and white grape, considerably sweet, reminiscent of Southampton’s grape saison. Shockingly soft in the body, expected biting carbonation. Instead its soft and thickly doughy, light sweetness mid palate with more white grape and sugary apple. The finish is dusty, earthy, even barky, punctuated by the sharply dry end. Coats the mouth. Very unique beer, not my thing yet nothing offensive. With warmth this begins approaching Arabier, though its less expressive.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Super head on this beer! Pours pretty damn creamy and just barely off white. Head retention is ridiculous! I poured this beer, put a few things away, came back and the head had only settled about a 1/4 inch. Smells yeasty as all get out, with a sour/hoppiness to it as well. Yellowish amber in color with a small amount of ’floaties’. I love the Belgian treatment of this pale. Creamy mouthfeel, reminiscent of what I’d expect from that head. Crazy lacing. Good light hop character, with almost an IPA hop presence. The yeast strain makes this beer IMHO. Great Belgian PA. Still loving Stillwater.
