On tap at Southern New Hampshire Brewers Fest. Enjoyed in a 2 ounce glass. Brown appearance, half a finger head. Scent is has this amber brown ale scent that’s close to Fat Tire. Taste is sweet with tea leaf dryness. Caramel and some cheap candies from the drug store at the finish like candy corns maybe? Medium body.

Dark brown pour with a thick, pillowy tan head that sticks around and leaves some lacing on the glass. Aroma is nuts and spice with some bread and mold hops. Taste is hazelnut, toasted grain, sourdough rolls, nutmeg, and hops. Kind of foamy on the palate. Much better than expected.

Toasted nuts and candy-like toffee/caramel in the aroma. Slightly sweet and smoothly malty. Great finish/aftertaste.

22 oz bottle from The Beer Store, Nashua NH. Pours dark brown with a never ending 3 finger beige head. Huge angry head eventually settles down and leaves a coating of lace. Nutty, earthy aroma. Slightly sweet up front with some brown sugar flavor giving way to some slight hop bitterness. Moderate in body with active carbonation.

It was ok. Looked great, beautiful head, smelled pretty good too. Taste was a bit of roasted malts with piney hops. In fact, too much hoppiness for my tastes when it comes to a brown ale. The commercial description is spot on: if you like pale ales, you will probably like this beer. I prefer many other styles before I’d grab a pale ale, so it wasn’t my thing.

22 oz bottle from Bert’s in Hooksett. A very good-looking brown ale into the glass. Big frothy tan head. Grassy-roasty aromas. Flavor is up front with notes of caramel and roasted nuts, but mid way through the hoppy bite creaps in. Finishing is roasty and bittering.

Pours a three finger light tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Very dark brown almost black color, no highlights. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Earthy malt nose, flavor is similar earthy malt and a little caramel. Lingering bitter aftertaste. $6.95 for a 22oz bottle from Bert’s Better Beers Hooksett, NH.

Pours a solid dark brown with brilliant ruby highlights when held to light. Creamy beige head shows moderate retention and lace. Smells of caramel brown sugar with a hint of chocolate and licorice. Earthy almost herbal hops break through the sweetness to provide a bit of balance. Taste is pretty much what the aroma promised. Caramel and brown sugar flavor up front give way to a bit of grass and earth. Finishes with a bit of chocolate and hint of ash. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a silky creamy mouthfeel. Solid brown ale with enough flavor to keep me interested. If they would put it into 6 packs I might consider purchasing it more often.
