COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hog Happy Hefeweizen is a full-flavored, traditional German-style wheat beer that tastes like it comes straight from Munich, but is made with wheat from local farms. The yeast used during fermentation gives this straw-colored beer the sweet flavor and aromas of banana & clove.

Bottle from Un Dun. Slightly dark cloudy orange with lasting head and lace. Cloves and mild banana. Mildly sweet honey/vanilla fruity wheaty tang with mild bitterness and then some farmhouse funk that I don’t think should be there. Infected? Anyhow the funk takes away from the authentic flavor.

This was sent to me in a recent trade. A nice hefeweizen is not anything particularly special. Regardless I always love trying new breweries. Based on this data point I would give them a second chance assuming the bottles are not too pricey.

Aroma / Appearance - A rosy gold base and carbonated white head lurk in the glass. Spicy wheat adds a nice texture along with blood oranges and malts. Overall it feels a bit off my usual idea of the style. Despite that it does not feel offputting.

Flavor / Palate - Oranges, malt, and residual hops tickle the tongue. For a mere 5% ABV beer it does feel kind of heavy. A chewy mouthfeel transitions into a spicy finish that is warm. It is decent without being a stellar example of the style.

Bottle shared at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig ’13, 10/08/13. Hazed orange/light amber with a thin white head. Nose is tarte fruit, orange, light spice. Taste comprises lightly soured fruits, citrus, orange, touch lactic. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finish. Not a hefe as I know it but just about drinkable, that said glad to be taking a small sample!
