lightly hazed chestnut brown body with a medium-sized off-white head. toasted dark malt, bread crust, cereal grains and baked cracker malt nose with a light touch of chocolate and noticeable diacetyl butteriness. sourish dark malt flavor with notes of cast-iron-skillet-burnt butter. light body, soft carbonation but with a noticeably sour / yogurt / sour cream character. not in the best shape, I fear.

Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!
Im Glas schauts dunkel mit einer leicht rötlichen Färbung aus. Die Krone ist cremefarbend, feinporig, und steht da wie ein Soldat! Der Geruch ist (röst)malzig und karamellig. Der Antrunk überzeugt! Ein super Aroma. Malzig im Antrunk, der Nachgeschmack geht stark ins Karamellige. Zum Mittelteil hin kommt eine kaffeartige Bittere, die diesem Dunklen die perfekte Ausgewogenheit bringt!

It’s beautiful, dark red copper with a dense, creamy and lasting head. The aroma has notes of fruits, caramel – a bit like fruit-caramels and malt. The flavour has a light sweetness with notes of fruit-caramels, roasted malt, nuts and the finish is dry – nice and well-balanced.

Part of the Nurnberg Beer Raid 2011. On tap at the 14.Fränkisches Bierfest in Nurnberg, Germany. Is a dark brown pour with a full tan head. Aroma is malt and sweet spiceiness. Taste is very nice malty spice. Palate is mellow. A very well done beer. Bravo!!

Mild röstiger, ziemlich trockener Antrunk. Das Malz kann sich wegen der Trockenheit nicht ausbreiten, ob es das unter anderen Umständen tun würde, ist aber fraglich. Wenig fruchtig, marginal hopfig. Im Mittelteil bereits langweilig, das Malz wird schwächer, das Bier verlässt sicha aber vollkommen auf dieses Aroma und hat der drohenden Wässrigkeit nichts entgegenzusetzen. Zum Ende ist das Malz fast verschwunden, als ein geringer Röstschub daherkommt, der das Gazne noch einmal helbwegs belebt. 11/8/7/7/9/7

(swing top bottle) Hazy, amber to copper colour with a beige and big foamy head. Mildly sweet and toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel and (chest-)nuts, accompanied by citric and herbal hops. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a crisp mouthfeel. Toasty malty and nutty taste with shades of caramel, chocolate and herbal accents; almost dry bitter-sweet finish with a delicate herbal hops character. Balanced and tasty Dunkel. 12.XI.10

Draught at the brewpub. Roasted aroma. Cloudy brown colour. Stable creamy tan head. The flavour is roasted, has a little sourish note as from roasted barley. Vinous and nutty finish.

Cloudy deep amber with a medium beige head. Aroma had roasted malt, caramel and hints of barnyard. Flavour had roasted malt, caramel and dark fruits. Finished fairly sweet.

Tap@Brewpub. Very nice Dunkel. Light brown color, yellowish head, good lace. Malty, hoppy, toffee, light bitter. Clean and balanced. Very German, very much according to the style.

Clear light to medium amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, hay, toasted, caramel, keller, light roasted. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average duration. Body is light medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. [20090727]
