Dark wheat has a bold, dark color that surprises the drinker with a mild clean flavor. This beer is a black version of an American Wheat, with some locally malted corn added for a drier, more drinkable, local flavor. Germans would consider this a beer an American version of a Dunkel Weizen.

Can. Chocolate and wheat malt aroma. Dark chestnut brown with large tan head. Sweet milk chocolate and wheat malt flavor. Nice body. Excellent - basically a top of the line dunkel/porter.

Can at home. Pours dark brown to black with one finger of head. Aroma is roast malt and not much else. Little wheat in the flavor. Mostly just very roasty and somewhat thin bodied. Decent beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Fairly run of the mill beer but certainly drinkable & decent for the style. Not quite as watery as most wheats & the deep dark pour is kind of cool. Ok - I wouldn’t go seek this out again though!

Can poured into a pint glass -- Pours a deep dark brown with active fizzies and very little white head. Smells like dark malt, hint of roast. First flavors are roasty and bland, as it sits and warms it opens up very nicely. Light malt sweetness that melds with the darker malts nicely. Recommend serving above fridge temps.

Refrigerated can, from queenholly, poured into a weizen glass. Dark brown with big light brown head. Aroma is banana, medium body, medium/light carbonation, creamy texture, and little lacing. Taste is dark malt, chocolate, coffee, hints of banana. If I drank this blindly I would guess coffee stout, but has subtle dunkelweizen characteristics. Thanks for another state tick queenholly.

Pours a thin black. Nice aromas of wheat, banana, and coffee. Flavors are a let down. Some sweet grains and coffee flavors.. But a thin watery finish.

Cornstalker is a very unusual dark wheat ale. Though the brewery feels comfortable with calling it a dunkel weizen, I’m not sure that title really fits. With its dark brown body and cocoa aroma, Cornstalker has a lot more in common with a porter than a wheat ale. That is, of course, until you get to the taste. Yes, there are some cocoa/coffee notes in the flavor, but you’ll be more likely to pick up on the sweet malts and light body. While Cornstalker isn’t a pure stylistic example of, well, anything, it does offer a lot of malty goodness in a surprisingly dark body. This dark wheat beer isn’t what you expect. Luckily, that’s mostly a good thing.

Can - small foamy head, almost black color, roasty aroma (mild) and flavor (fair to strong), mild hops - a little roastier than expected but not bad ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the brewery. Dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, bitter chocolate and dark fruits. Similar flavor, with light bready malts and a somewhat ashy finish. Average body. Solid beer, one of their better offerings.

This was a pretty decent beer, dark appearance and more roasty than you’d expect from a wheat beer. Tried at a Thunderhead tasting in December 2013.
