3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at home London with Lyoli. Pours clear, bright gold, highly effervescent with a moderate, foamy white head. The aroma has a lot of bready malts, some ripe citrus fruits. Medium sweet flavor with moderate citrus rind bitterness. Plenty of jammy orange, some grapefruit, mild alcohol. Medium bodied with average, lightly creamy carbonation. Lightly warming finish with further bready malts, touches of toffee, more ripened orange. Interesting. A cross between English strong ale and IPA. Yeah, interesting.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From Sainsbury’s. Cold bottle. Pours clear amber, sparkling, small bubbly white head. Smells of tangerine. Body is medium to light but carbonation is quite high which makes it seem bigger. Taste is fairly pungent caramel malts and peach with some pine in the finish. Just a soft level of bitterness. Very easy drinking indeed. If I have one complaint it is that there is a slightly metallic aftertaste.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml dark glass bottle. part of the Sainsbury’s 2013 Beer Hunt. A fairly dry and zesty strong bitter. Quite pale in colour. Hops are a blend of American, New Zealand and British with none dominating the others, though all somewhat over-riding the malt. It is the current fad for hop flavours to be prominent, though I prefer my beer to have more focus and consideration for the malt and the yeast. This is too clean and lacks character. Drinkable, but disappointing.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Sainsburys as part of the Beer Hunt. I’m not sure who listed this as an English Strong Ale, but I’d call it an American IPA. Colour is clear light orange. First whiff from the bottle is grapefruit, lemon and fresh lemon sherbet. Once in the glass there’s lots of tangerine, light toffee, touch of marmalade, lots of fresh citrous. On the taste it reveals more interesting fruit: peach and lychee, and a little pine. Sticky delicately fruity American style beer.
