3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a clear amber with a thick white head and medium carbonation. The aroma is weak, but with hints of malt and hops. The flavour is bitter, malty and refreshingly hopped. It’s a classic, quality English ESB.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pleasing orangey-amber colour. The aroma is spicy, marmaladey, with a warming fresh bread character. Medium body, toasty malts with a hint of biscuit. The hops are gentle, well-integrated and the marmaladey Bramling Cross note is a breath of fresh English air. Tasty stuff.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from store in Cape Town. Warm amber with a really lovely head that makes it look like it was pulled from a cask. Balanced, peppery aroma. Juicy body with healthy malts that are kept in check by a dry, spicy hop finish that hints of mustard seed and leaves.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Brown 500ml bottle, best before 22nd Feb 08, drank Christmas Eve 2007.
Poured into a Palm Special tulip glass (twice).
Lighter than I thought it would be, a very clear, light amber colour with an off white head that soon clears away to leave a small collar round the glass and nothing else (on both pours).
The aroma is of malts, hops and a little yeast, the label mentions a bitter orange finish but I can’t find that in the nose or the taste.
Bog standard English Ale, no great flavours for me, a little too bitter if anything with the sour citrus fruits coming through more than the orange.
Fairly watery for a 5.2% Ale, no high alcohol feel at all, could be mistaken for a 3.8% session beer.
I drink with all my senses, this didn’t look great and the mouthfeel let it down too, not a beer I will seek out or long for.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a clear honey color with an off white head that quickly falls to a thin layer. Hops hit the nose first with some citrus and tart fruit with some malt to back it up. The taste follows with a dry crisp and citrusy aftertaste. Medium carbonation with a fine structure, body is on the light side of medium. Overall a pretty nice ale.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle served cool. Bright amber with a thin white head. Fruity aroma, more citrus than tropical, resiny marmalade flavour. Nice lip smacking bitter finish. Very drinkable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma has some sweet tropical fruits. Flavour is sweet and fruity with some passion fruit and orange. It leads to a drier hoppy finish with a sweet citrus edge.
