COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lancashire-based brewer Thwaites has given one of its popular guest ales a regal makeover to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee. Fine Rain, a popular ale from Thwaites’ 2012 quarterly favourites range has undergone an opportunistic overhaul as ‘Fine Reign’ to mark the occasion. Golden in colour the 4.1% ABV ale offers drinkers a light, zesty and malty flavour with a marmalade fruity finish. Fine Reign, available in Thwaites pubs and through its independent free trade network throughout June, also has a limited edition pump clip displaying the crown jewels. Lee Williams, marketing manager of Thwaites said: “This is a popular ale and already has some loyal fans, so we’re hoping it will now gain some royal ones too.

Dark yellow color. Moderately watery. Plain profile, bready, lightly caramel, generic bitter. Hangs on the palate a bit. Nothing bad but not good either. (cask, Far from the Madding Crowd, Oxford, June 2012)

Cask. The Old White Swan (Nicholson’s), York. Thin white head. Gold body. Citrus, floral. Bitter. Dry finish. Like a really good golden ale that’s been watered down.

Citrusy and lightly hopped. Sweet with light bitter. Golden with thin head. Decent, but not special.
