Refreshing amber ale, brewed with four hop varieties for superb taste and aroma.
When Daniel Thwaites was embarking on his brewing career, the ’Indus’ would have been voyaging to the East Indies = trading Lancashire cotton for exotic Eastern delights. Our Indus Pale Ale celebrates ales of that period with a refreshing brew enriched with abundant hops for flavour that stays fresh and crisp to the finish.

Pours a clear, amber colour with a slightly off-white foam that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing on the side of the glass. Smells metallic, earthy and a bit soapy.. it somehow reminds me of a Swedish soda called ’Julmust’ which is sold around Christmas. Every sip immediately has a sweet taste, but it doesn’t take long before a heavy bitterness hits your taste buds. Overall, this is an alright beer, though I find the finish a bit too astringent. I suppose this could be a refreshing beer on a warm summer day, but I couldn’t have more than one due to the unpleasant astringency.

(Bottle): Pours a clear amber with a medium white head. Aroma of lemon zest, grapefruits and some mild grassy notes. Faint hoppy taste, some elements of malt and a touch of earthy, grassy bite. Moderate bitterness and quite average overall but very drinkable.

Ingen høydare i deg hele tatt. Litt for besk. Lite smak. Uspennende. Rett og slett en kjedelig øl. --- For norwegian readers...

Half litre bottle, poured into pint glass. A: Bronze, clear, small head, decent retention and lacing. S: According to the bottle it was brewed with 4 hops. I detected pine and earth, possibly pointing towards Fuggles and Challenger? T: Apple, burnt Maris Otter malt, bitterness kicked in at the finish. M: Medium to slightly thick body, carbonation gave it a slightly coarse edge. O: Not entirely convinced it was an out and out IPA as other similar tasting beers are classed as Bitters or ESBs. Passable.

500 ml bottle. Dark golden body with a moderate sized white head. Light aroma of caramel with a hint of fruit. Flavor has sweet malt, caramel and some kind of metallic bitterness. Medium body and moderate in aftertaste. This is not an IPA at all, even in accordance with British definition. Drinkable, but not very exciting as a bitter either. Below average.

Aroma: Metal, earth and grain.

Appearance: Clear copper body with a thin off-white head. Lively carbonation. Nice lacing.

Taste: Muted grapefruit and herbal notes, but there’s a metallic taste that ended up getting in the way of any other flavours that were trying to come through. Bitter finish.

Palate: Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Lively carbonation.

Overall: A bit thin and dull, with an off-putting metallic taste.

Zesty citrus notes in the nose that follow well into the flavour. Pours a honey pale gold with a fluffy head. Lingering citrus on the palate and a long dry finish make this an excellent session pale.
