2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 SilkTork (4898) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - AUG 3, 2004
UPDATED: NOV 1, 2007 Aug, 2004 Pasteurised and artifically carbonated bitter. Really tastes of the pasteurisation - rusty metallic caramel. Screaming metal! This is the sort of keg beer that CAMRA was formed to get rid of. The absolute pits. Undrinkable. Whatever made them think they could get away with producing such shite! Ah - I see, it’s a charity beer, so they don’t give a damn anyway. I can’t be arsed to give this fucking abomination any marks at all. [0.5]
Aug, 2006 Chocolate and metallic notes in a crystal malt ale. Not too sweet. Not too hoppy. Overcarbonated, but that’s settled by a good swirl and a long rest. The messy and artificial flavours are more difficult to deal with. It’s actually drinkable, and almost quite nice. [1.8]
Nov, 2007 500ml bottle from Morrisons. Malty premium bitter. I drank most of tghis without paying much attention. It’s a fairly typical pasteurised botttled premium bitter from one of the British regional breweries. There are few surprises., though this is maltier than most, with some chocolate notes. It’s fairly sweet, but has a rasping hop bitterness in the finish. It’s either improved over the past couple of years, or I have been very harsh in the past. [2.6]

Grassy, herbal hops and caramel malt character balance well in the aroma with some notes of citrus and earth. Clear, deep copper coloured body is topped by an immense white head that laces beautifully. Fruity esters and caramel malt character are the stars of the flavour profile with very mild bitterness and some herbal and floral hop flavours. Medium light body with lively carbonation that is engaging on the tongue and cheeks. Shaker glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Feniton Spar, May-06).

Good old Budgens are still selling this stuff in May, 2005. I quite liked it. Unmistakable citrus in the aroma and a pleasant, unremarkable malty taste. A bit too much carbonation, but good hops at the finish.
