Bottle conditioned. Chestnut colour no head a little sweet malt aroma. Taste is a little caramel, sweet plums and a touch spicey. Has a sour ring through and reminds me a little of a Belgian sour ale. Old ales are one of my favourite styles, but this one was not one of the better ones. Nice enough though.

Almost Belgian like dubble. Or barley wine. Bar the strength. Warming, slightly spiced aftertaste that develops. But not complex.

Fairly sweet and malty. If DB had rated this 7 years ago he’d have given it 4.2. Consistency across the years Daniel. Good luck Leicester I guess.

Poured a dark amber with a small off white head. Aroma of bitter caramel malt. Medium body, flavour of the aroma, a litte forest fruit and a lot of nuttyness. Very old school.

Slightly cloudy deep copper coloured ale with a small head. Its strength is apparent in its aroma but only fully revealed as part of its taste. Has a mild sweetness.

Scopey (3243) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 24, 2013
Bottle at home. It pours deep copper with a small off-white head. The nose is wood, leather, fruit cake, caramel, raisin and candied fruit. The taste is wood, leather, nut, caramel, light astringency, burnt cake, lightly acidic and earth with a dry, alcoholic finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A bit rough-around the edges, but still not bad.

Pours mahogany clear brown-red, no head to speak of, low carbonation Aroma is yeasty and sweet-clover-like Starts sweet acidic hops and yeasty; body is bready, fruity with malts. Finish is tangy fruit-cake with hops and tangy fruit aftertaste

Clear bright amber beer. Tidy cream coloured head. Estery fruits on the nose. Light dry palate, a little crisp. Sweetish malt with estery banana and and a trace of sweet peach candy fruits. Minerals and mild lactose. Finishes with an alcohol evaporating dryness. A little apple in the aftertaste. Not bad if not exactly subtle!

Creedence (127) - Cork, IRELAND - JAN 20, 2013
330 ml bottle in The Porterhouse, Cork. Pours a dark red/amber with a very thin, short-lived off-white head. Little nose on it, slight fruit and treacle. Tastes of caramel and nuts, quite sweet like Innis & Gunn. Very light carbonation and disappointingly thin palate with little aftertaste. Overall pretty decent and very quaffable considering the strength.

No head, always off putting. Thin beer with a malty taste.Hides a 7+abv very well.Heading towards Barley Wine territory in strength but isn’t as sickly.Lacks an intense flavour.I will stick with Guiness foreign extra!
