COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned.
Surprisingly refreshing for a full-flavoured dark porter with subtle notes of smokiness and liquorice. A taste of the past, inspired by a time when the elite would gather in Elizabethan taverns, to sample the finest ales, porters and wines.

Why is it that dark beers have a better basic standard. How wrong can you go with a porter? Same can’t be said for lighter beers. Anyway, yes, good.

(Bottle): Pours jet black with almost no head. Lots of coffee and roasted malts in the aroma. An overall smokey flavour with coffee, roasted malts and chocolate coming through. A nice bitter/sweet balance but its a little bit thin. I really enjoyed this one.

It’s black or at least dark enough that it’s hard to discern the colour. Thick, frothy off-white head. Aroma is malt and something else I can’t place. Malt, chocolate and toffee in the flavour. Strong and full-bodied but mellow enough that the flavour isn’t too strong. very pleasant.

A thin bodied, almost black beer with no head whatsoever. The aroma is smooth choco-latte but there is not much else. The flavour is fairly one dimensional and needs some more malt backbone. The predominant flavour is ash like. Ok but nothing special.

A dark beer with licorice overtones. Smooth taste, but make sure it is not too chilled. If its too cold the taste suffers.

Splendid bottle conditioned porter. Light smoke, loquorice, roast and chocolate. Lasting flavours of liquorice.

Aroma is grassy and has a hint of bitter orange pith. Flavour is initially quite smokey. There is a light acidity to this beer which I am not keen on. The finish is drying and becomes quite watery.

Bottle conditioned. Almost black very little head. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Taste is smokey malts and coffee with a seam of chocolate running through, a little more bitter than most porters. A good porter with interesting notes.

Tasting tray at a beer festival in Dublin. Nice porter but not really impressive. I will try it again
