Ok, everything you expect in a porter is here. Boxes ticked. However itís all a bit lightweight. Dark, with hints of smokeyness. Chocolate and coffee from the malt and fruits from the hops. But all very thin. Unexciting.

500ml bottle, pours black with a very foamy tan head. Aroma of cocoa, chocolate and biscuit malt, some coffee in there too. Long and quite bitter finish with some rich fruitiness coming through. Palate rich and full bodied, a bit cloying.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Black, with a chunck of dirty sponge sitting on top. Forever. Roasted malts, a bit smoky and pleanty of ashes. Yes, the plums where there, but rather feeble. Thin bodied, it was rather disappointed for so much expectation I had on this beer.

Bottle from Morrison. Black beer touch of liquorice some choc and cold coffee. Yes a touch over carbonated which I couldnít do anything about as I was drinking it from a bottle on the train. chocolate sponge cake flavour. Some sting on the finish. Pretty good actually.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
500ml bottle conditioned. Drank at about cellar temperature. I agree with some other raters, this is quite one dimensional for a porter. Very smooth but lacking in depth. Aroma is chocolate with maybe some fruit. Taste is disappointing. Not much better than average really.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: JUL 26, 2013 (Bottled version) A lovely, hefty but still refreshing bottle conditioned porter. Guinness with bells on. Very drinkable at cool to ambient: I think deep chilling it loses some of the flavour and texture, but light chilling emphasises the refreshing crisplness in a good way. Really Excellent. Good deal on this and other bottled conditioned beers at Makro.
PS Iím not sure the comments which note "thin", "ordinary", "no head" etc can be referring to the same beer!
