2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 madmitch76 (9845) - , Essex, ENGLAND - OCT 8, 2011
4th August 2011 GBBF. Cask. Hazy gold beer, little white head. Light dry palate. A bit too dry. Trace of sulphur in the somewhat raw pale malt. Decent bitter orange hops but not enough to save this messy beer. Too dry!
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 chriso (7254) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 4, 2011
Cask (handpump) at Great British Beer Festival, day 3, on 4 August 2011. Gold in colour. Clean, fresh and drinkable. Pleasant enough but not a huge amount to it, to be honest. There is a delicate grapefruit twist and a surprisingly dry bitterness (considering the use of Cascade hops) but the overall effect is rather restrained. Good to see a rather staid regional brewer waking up to the allure of US hop varieties but I would have preferred something with a bit more aromatic punch. Perhaps removing the sparkler would have helped.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2011 Cask (GBBF2011, Tuesday) with sparkler (6:3:6:3:11=2.9)
Dull. Bugger all hops. Very disappointed given the pump-clip. It’s just a boring bitter.
Rerate: Cask (GBBF2011, Thursday) no sparkler (6+:3:6:4:13=3.2)
Sweet malted barley aroma. Toffee-ish palate, bready light grains. Much more alive when not sparkled to death.
