Sample at the brewpub. Clear brownish-amber color with a medium light beige head that diminishes quickly to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and nuts. Light-bodied with flavors of roast malt, fruit and slight earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Average overall.

On tap, sampler. Light brown, not much head. Mild nose, malt and yeast. A bit thin on the attack, but overall pleasant if unremarkable. Might be good on a hot afternoon.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Claims to be English style, but it’s much fizzier than most British ales. Not bad though.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught at Palapas as "Tied House Brown Ale" by Redwood Coast Brewing Company. Medium brown color with a lasting medium head that leaves plenty of lace. The aroma is a bit subdued; just some toasty and light chocolate-roast malt. The flavor is a pretty nice balance of caramel malt sweetness and dryer chocolate and dark toast, with just enough hops to balance but not really be noticeable. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Decent brown ale with a nice toast thing going, but nothing special.
