Slightly skunky aroma with some off grain smells. Very pale gold, webby head. Very good label and cap. In fact, the label and cap were the high point of this beer. Sweetish, under-hopped, skunky malting. Thin.

The aroma has malt and no detectable hops. The appearance is pale gold with a small head. The flavor is mildly bitter and malty. Itís uncomplicated except for a toasted herb bread taste that is also present. The palate is thin. There is nothing bad here and there is nothing all that good either. There just isnít all that much to report.

330 ml bottle. Medium yellowish going to orange color. Good head after pouring but lost it within 5 mins. Skunk aroma. Low carbonation. A bit sour but it doesnít really taste something.

Poured from a bottle at Double Happiness, a cool underground bar in Manhattanís NoLiTa nabe. It smelled stinky, and I thought it might be skunked. The bartender assured me that thatís what it was supposed to smell like. The taste was only a little bit better. I had it without food, which I think was also a mistake. Not one Iíd return to.

Catfight: Tiger Lager vs Tiger Special Classic Edition rated head to head in an unsensational winner-takes-bugger-all contest. This one-off all-Singaporean bout comes courtesy of Bridge (Classic Edition) and Nice Houseguest With Poor Taste In Beer (Tiger Lager). Does Tiger Lager have the claws to see off the Classic Edition? Or will the CEís vaunted addition of crystal malt turn the contest? Does anyone care? Letís find out... Appearance (both poured simultaneously into identical chalices): a clear win for Classic Edition. TL arrives with a watery gold body and skinny head that vanishes immediately. CE is brighter, deeper and has a head that not only lasts but also laces. TL 2/5, CE 4/5. Aroma: TL is sugary sweet, with cardboardy malt. Uninspiring. Can it get worse? Surprisingly, yes. CE smells stale, despite being well within its íconsume-byí date. Itís fruity, with some wet dog. TL 3, CE 2. Palate: TL is surprisingly oily, with a dry finish. CE is fizzier. TL 3/5, CE 3/5. Flavour: TL is all sugary cornwater, with faint banana and a dry, mildly grainy finish. CE benefits from the crystal malt, but marginally. It has Juicy Fruit chewing gum and canned pear notes. Itís much maltier and just as sweet. TL 3/10, CE 4/10. Overall: I expected the Lager to win this hands down, but there was no contest. The CE is no classic, despite the name, but itís superior in most aspects. Total Scores: Tiger Lager 1.6, Classic Edition 2.0. (Tiger Lager: 330ml bottle, bb Dec 2006; Classic Edition: 330ml can, brewed Dec 30, 2005)

Iím amazed that I have heard so many positive reviews of this beer. It was colossally disappointing. Very little flavor and a watery palate. Give me a Singha, Tsingtao, or a Kirin Ichiban any day over this. I may deserve a caning for saying this but Sillipore needs to stick to business trade and stay out of brewing.

Bottled. Clear yellow beer, very small white head. Sweet nose with a touch of hops. Light body and lightly sweet taste which is somewhat malty. Some strange bitterness in the finish, doesnít last long, though. Not metallic, but not balanced.
