Draft. Golden pour. Clean and crisp tripel, lots of grain flavor, some mild hops poke through, not a game changer but pleasant.

Spicy hops overwhelm the nostrils. White fluffy head sits on a golden body. Good carbonation. Despite the high alcohol content it is very easy to drink. Not so much of a yeasty presence I would expect from a belgian style triple.

Flight pour on tap at the brewpub (Mundelein, IL). Pours a rich yellow glowing hue, touches of gold glow, a rich haze, with a frothy whitish head atop, laces well as a wall. a firm film. Aromas are gentle touches of fruit, some honey and banana, touches of lemon, and bready malts. Yeasty life comes full focus, with spice and life. Bready mellow malts, dough, a touch of honey and crisp estery fruits. Initial is as expected, sweeter, some estery fruit, honeycrisp apples, gentle honey, bread and dough. Some zesty yeasty life, touches of spice, but a sweeter vanilla honey and fruity body add up. A touch of ABV heat, some life, as the body does tone itself down into the middle. Mellow sweetness, a bunch of apple and bread dough, touches of pear, gentle spice and dry touches of bitterness. Finish is firm, lingering sweetness, touches of Candi sugar, honey, and apple/pear fruit qualities. Just a touch of bittering let’s this beer’s spice and sweetness (especially) linger on. For body, it’s not bad. Less sweet than I’d expect for the style that wins a point or two from me. From a style I generally dislike, this is one of the better ones. Lemony essence and less sweetness wins favor from me.

Draft at Tighthead. Unfortunately, my least favorite of the lot. Pours a brilliant gold with a persistent white head. The Nose, though, is a bit off. Peppery phenols and a fruitiness but also a strong grapey aroma, tending towards some fusel oils. Fermented a touch hot? Noted booze in the nose. On tasting, the grape notes are too much for me. Has a high level of bitterness that balances out the sweetness from the alcohol, but the fusel notes are a bit much. I’m guessing that they’ll do better on the next batch. Hope to re-rate.

Pours a bright gold with an almost white head. Nose is of of euro-centric hops, and pale malts, taste follows suit. A bit light on the booze for a tripel IMO, but a very solid drinkable beer.
