RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Jun 14, 2009 Light earth and leather notes waft above the sweet caramel in the aroma. Flavor is off dry with a drier finish. Not bad, just strikes me as "La Trappe Light". Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Jun 14, 2009 Crisp, Nutty, Earthy, light. Like mixing an Abbey Dubbel with a Newcastle. I could pound a few of these, especially at the Price of $4 a bottle at Zeke’s on Miami Beach. Expected more flavor from Koningshoeven, tho. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 11, 2009 [2130-20090504] Tap. Sweet grainy malt aroma. Clear, rich red dark brown body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Rich sweet malt flavour is mildly boozy with a long sweet mildly fruity finish. Medium body. Average.
(@ Volo; Toronto, ON) Pwn3d (1040), Manhattan, New York, USA Jun 9, 2009 Rating same as JRedmond.. Bottle. Amber body, no head. Aroma is malt. Taste is plain, flavor is generic malt. DigitalMan (113), Idaho, USA Jun 8, 2009 Aroma seems slightly off-putting... not right in some way I can’t place. No head, some lacing. Fairly dark brown. Decent enough, but ordinary in flavor. Has hints of trying at some sort of Trappist flavor. Not sold on this one. jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA Jun 7, 2009 Bottle. Amber body, no head. Aroma is malt. Taste is plain, flavor is malt. Cavie (1317), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Jun 6, 2009 Rouge brown pour. Something sweet in the scent but also something of crayola. Taste is more fruity than most; it is sweet and thin. Almost like a dark wine cooler. JesseM (661), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada May 27, 2009 Pint from a fresh keg at the Golden Kiwi in downtown Galt. Taps a very nice, deep dark ruby-brown with a large beige head. The aroma is enticing, very sweet malt presence with the kind of esters you’d expect from a Trappist brew, banana, clove, prunes, etc. Flavour is just awesome. A complex yet refreshing brew! Comes in waves, starts out with a huge banana whack and some yeastiness, gets quite sweet and malty into the finish with nice dark fruit elements. And it goes down way too easy. I had to actually stop myself from drinking the whole pint in under a minute. So damn drinkable! Yet with Trappist characteristics, there’s just so much in this product that I love in certain beers. I plan on drinking a lot more of this in the future.
