badgerjason (14), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 24, 2005 Very good brown ale. I personally drink a case a week during the summer. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 23, 2005 Pours dark copper/almost ruby with small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma of chocoff, dark malt, caramel, some fruit, nuts. pumpernickel bread. Tastes very caramel malty, with big toffee, chocolate, some almonds, some coca cola. Medium palate, with decent complexity and balance. Brad (364), Berkley, Michigan, USA Jun 22, 2005 12 oz. bottle: Light brown pour, a little hazy, but mostly transparent, with a sustaining near white head. Aromas were of sweet malts (especially raisens/prunes). Flavor wasn’t as sweet as this beer is heavily watered down, touches of caramel and dried dark fruits. Mouthfeel is watery, aftertaste is washed out. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA Jun 14, 2005 Looks similar to Newcastle though a shade darker with a longer lasting head. Rich, Belgian aroma of earthy raisens. Quite sweet. Tastes like a watered down Quad. Some of the flavors are there but they are very muted. If the body was kicked up it would be more enjoyable. Better than I remember it. SuIIy (1406), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Jun 13, 2005 Bottle. Pours light brown with off white head. Aroma is light prunes. Flavor is tart and watery. Great label however though Hunsell (400), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jun 6, 2005 On draught. Always nice to see some different styles here in Holland. Aroma of malts, dark caramel. Tastes quite sweet but bitterness comes through pretty well. Seems a bit medicinal in the middle. jerohen (1603), Bussum, Netherlands Jun 5, 2005 Hazy brown coloured, small brown head. Malts and raisins in aroma. Malty flavour, very sweet, but still with enough bitterness in the finish to compensate for that. Thick mouthfeel. I wouldn’t drink more than one in a row, but it’s nice on occasion. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Jun 5, 2005 (Bottle) Pours a dark mahogany body with a medium-sized beige head. Aroma of flat Dr.Pepper, malt, and raisins. Flavor of malt, raisins, and caramel.
