Deep brown hue with dark red tints. Very sweet caramel malt aroma. Musty yeast profile. Peanut brittle. Heavily sweet, moderately acidic flavor becomes a moderately sweet, moderatley acidic, lightly bitter finish. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: the Dutch do things a bit different and it turned out well this time. (Though, ’The Garden of Earthly Delights’ section on the label...wtf?) A very sweet malty nose with a lot of caramel and nutmeg. A heavy caramel and nutty presence in the flavor. This one is really sweet. Maybe a little too much so. Overall this is a good brown with a very belgian yeasty quality to it. My only complaint is the slightly cloying effect. Id have it again. Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA

Solid silky head, excellent malty nose and full layered flavor. This tastes like someone put sweet&low in it. Head diminishes quickly and leaves a syrupy candied residue in the mouth. I used to buy it by the case, now a six-pack is a challenge to get down. TheRimmer (483), Florida, USA

The taste was figgy, hints of wine coming in that mix with the brown flavors. somewhat vinous. Medium bodied. Plenty of hearty cereal flavors. Quite nice. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Mar 21, 2005 Very intense malty, fruity aroma. Flavor is yeasty and somewhat reminiscent of a Belgian artisan beer, though not nearly as forthright. Extremely fruity finish. Sadly, this beer is flat and watery on the palate, otherwise it would rise quite a few points in my book. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

Comming from De Koningshoeven, I was expecting much more than I got. Its got flavour, but its just so flat and bland. I finished it not even realizing it to be honest. Still better than Newcastle
