Aroma is predominantly malty with notes of dark bread and milky caramel sweetness in the background, along with some faintly floral perfume and an odd sort of vegetative tinge, perhaps olive? Light suggestions of raisin and cocoa appear after considerable warming. Deep, clear dark brown in color with a slight, very fine yet lasting head and artful lacing. Lightly bitter and yeasty to start, developing into more of a grainy, sweet, lightly roasted malt character and finishes with a blend of a distinct sort of tangy dried fruitiness, lingering dark sugars, chocolate, tobaccoish herbs and pepper. Thin, watery and moderately effervescent palate, body is medium. Not spectacular, but its price did not indicate that it would necessarily be... radiomgb (2074), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?U target=blank>piscator34, thanks Kris. Deep ruby in colour, long lasting beige coloured head, some lacing. The aroma has lots of toffee, its quite rich and malty, very sweet. The flavour is rather sweet but not overly so, dark fruits (cherries), caramel malts, some chocolate, very light roast. Thick mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a lingering mild sweetness. Pretty sweet but not overpowering, not to bad. madsberg (5152), Søborg, Denmark
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 21, 2006 Bottled: Mahogany coloured. Unclear. Small light brown head. Sweet and fruity aroma. Light syrupy.Caramelly, fruity and sweetish flavour. Is a little artificial. Ends on a very very light bitter note. A bit too sweet for my likings. TheBeerGod (3177), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 13, 2004 Bottled. Pours a brown body with a foamy tan head. Nose is sweetened malts, light spice, and maybe caramel. Some light earthiness as well. Taste is mild caramel, more sweetened malts, light cocoa, and light spice. Surprisingly tastes better than I thought. Body is medium. Thin in parts, though. Finishes with more sweetened tones and milder caramel. A light tartness is trying to come through. Great bargain on this - $1 per bottle! beerguy101 (3972), Newark, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 8, 2009 Tasted on tap at the Celebrator Best of the West Beerfest on 2/15/2009. This brown ale pours a medium brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, fruity and nutty. A medium bodied brown ale. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice carbonation. A little on the sweet side, but a nice easy to drink brown ale. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 1, 2004 11.2 oz. / 330 ml. brown, longneck bottle. Cryptic date code of
K07A4 on back label. Poured out a medium brown color, with red highlights around the edges. It had a decent sized light brown colored head, that faded back to a sticky film on top of the beer itself, and down the sides of the glass. Aromas are of sweet malts,
dark brown sugar, molasses, some walnuts, and dry biscuits.
Tastes are of sweet brown sugars, chocolate malts, hazelnuts, and vanilla notes as well. Thick body, rich and chewy. Satisying and well balanced by the earthy hops. Just enough bitterness to counteract some of the sweetness. Carbonation level is just right, enough to know it’s there, but not enough to make your tongue tingly. Finishes on the sweet side, with a cocoa powder bitterness to it. A decent, well made Belgian dark ale. Economically priced also. $6.99 for a six-pack at one of my local beer stores. I’m glad I tried it. Kinz (2221), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 18, 2006 Deep ruby borwn, nice head fades slow. Aroma of mild coffee and a touch of ash. Light coffee flavor, almost like a watery Maxwell House. But somewhat better than that. Not much else going on here. So-so.
