COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Gueuze is an appellation controlee : its label is protected. It is also known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. The different lambics are carefully selected by the brewer to obtain a perfect flavour. After it has been produced, Timmermans Oude Gueuze, which is refermented for four months in the bottle, continues to improve for 20 years.

Lovely unclear orange golden color with a small white layer on top. Good intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a fine carbonation. Good balance between acidity and sourness. A bit dry texture. Green apples, citric, cellar and wood in the flavor. Solid stuff.
[Bottle at 3 Brødre in Oslo, Norway]

2015 bottling, so quite fresh. Light amber in colour with a white head. Aroma of citrus fruit, tangerine and floral with the mustiness associated with this style. Taste is sharp to start, no hint of sweetness with a hit of bitterness in there. Spritzy, lively on the tongue, more tangerine fruit with lemon. Tart, acidic and very refreshing. Very good.

0.375 l bottle from ’De Bierkoning’, bottled in 2013. Clear, golden amber with a thin, white layer. Sourish-fruity, moderately funky aroma of lemon, gooseberry, rhubarb, some barnyard and oak. Quite sour, moderately funky and a little fruity taste of rhubarb, oak, some lemon and hints of barnyard, followed by a medium long, rather tart and a little woody finish. Thin to medium body, very astringent and a little effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice smell, but the taste is not as pleasant and lacks complexity as well. Not impressed by their products.

Decent, but nothing exciting. Some grape stones, light berry, brett. Light sweet with moderate tartness and light bitterness. Sippable, but there are way better examples.
