4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750mL bottle, bottled 4/17/13, drunk on 1/11/14
Deep golden brass body is bright, with plentiful small bubbles producing an initially large, but mostly receding white head. Plenty of sediment left behind in the bottle. So far so good...
WOW! Is this a bottle of Cantillon gueuze? This is the closest aroma to Cantillonís gueuze that I think Iíve smelled outside of Cantillon beers. Sulphur, burnt rubber, full-on valeric acid tartness, wood tannins and a fair amount of barnyard. Very good strength of aroma as well, and just infinitely sniffable. I seriously doubt you could tell this apart from some cantillon gueuzes in a blind smelling. Itís also entirely possible that I have a big bias to that sulphur/rubber note and because itís so present here and in Cantillon, that Iím being a little blinded to the rest of the aroma.
The flavor dosent disappoint either, being nicely dry, woody and quite lactic. Soft, oily mouthfeel belies the relatively high amount of carbonation. Lemons, oranges, barrel tannins and plentiful barnyard character are all present here. Itís perhaps a touch too sweet on the finish, and dosent have quite the depth of some of the best (not as much weird funk) but itís tough to find flaw with this batch. Shockingly good, but cantillon gueuze is also my favorite beer, so again, Iím pretty biased to gueuzes that are similar to it.

Bottle (750ml): cloudy golden straw with light white head. Sour aromas of citrus juice and rind. Hint of old oak. Spice. Hint of funk. It pretty clean for sour beer. Dry, ver sour. Extreme acidity. Low to moderate bitterness. Funky saison flavors but much more acid with music lemon, lime flavors. Long and fine. Extreme but very interesting. Delicate flavors but extreme texture.
Lovely beer. Great replacement for champagne.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Seemed like a good day for it, hadnít had a lambic in a while, much less a new one. Poured a lightly hazy yellow, good head, high carbonation. Aroma is funk and lemons, some barnyard. Flavor is a match. Tart, but not overpowering, funky, but not over the top. Rather easy drinking actually. Nice, but I would have liked something with a bit more complexity. Loads of dregs at bottom should be noted.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
I rarely open bottled with them pointed away, but I was at the dentists and wanted to do it classy style, so I pointed it away from me and as soon as the cage was twisted loose, the cork fired out and made a dent in the siding of the house. Fucking ridiculous. Didnít foam over much though. Pours a turbid tangerine yellow with some fleeting white foam. Nose is funky and sour with plenty of co2, lemon and pepper. Flavor is Nicely tart without being puckering - grain and hot carb with some soda flavor and a good bit of metal and brett flavor. Thin with hi carb and sharp off dry finish. Meh, for a gueuze this isnít really up my alley.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/17/2013. Pours moderately hazy golden straw color with a 2 finger foamy white head with solid retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big sour apple, lemon zest, pear, grape, apricot, clove, pepper, oak, hay, straw, grass, vinegar, leather, funk, herbal, white wine, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of wild yeast ester and oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour apple, lemon zest, pear, grape, clove, pepper, oak, hay, straw, grass, vinegar, leather, white wine, funk, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy tartness/sourness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour apple, lemon, pear, grape, hay, straw, grass, pepper, clove, oak, vinegar, leather, funk, white wine, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of wild yeast and oak barrel flavors; with a great crisp malt/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very crisp and moderately prickly/acidic mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent Gueuze style! All around great complexity and balance of wild yeast and oak barrel flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on with moderate acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.
