Oude Gueuze is an appellation controlee : its label is protected. It is also known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. The different lambics are carefully selected by the brewer to obtain a perfect flavour. After it has been produced, Timmermans Oude Gueuze, which is refermented for four months in the bottle, continues to improve for 20 years.

0.375 l bottle @ One Pint Pub, Helsinki. Golden colour, head dies quicly, some UFOs at bottom. Well, this is different than the brewery’s more commercial sweet lambic beers. Very dry, yes champagne is never this dry. It burns your throat. OK, not as dry as Cantillon’s products but still very "oude". This is not for everyone.

375 ml bottle
Slightly hazy yellow to orange beer with little white head. Aroma and flavor have barnyard, lemon and gastric acid. Palate is sour, medium full with strong carbonation. Finish has medium bitterness and strong sourness. Aftertaste has fruits, lemon juice and lime. Sourness is a bit too strong, and the gastric acid is not pleasant.

Bottle. Pours yellow with white and quickly disappearing head. In aroma funky, tart fruits, lemon, barnyard with oaky notes in the finish. In flavour very tart and acidic but not too much in vinegar way, fruity and oaky. The beer is dry, low bodied with fizzy carbonation. Very drinkable, well done gueuze.
