Oude Gueuze is an appellation controlee : its label is protected. It is also known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. The different lambics are carefully selected by the brewer to obtain a perfect flavour. After it has been produced, Timmermans Oude Gueuze, which is refermented for four months in the bottle, continues to improve for 20 years.

Pours a golden straw color with a effervescent white head. Aroma is funk, lemon, sourness, oak, wild yeasts and pretty awesome. Flavor is tart, acidic, slightly oaked, funky gueuze goodness. I love sour, I love super sour, and this beer is way under-rated if you want it hard, sour, pounding your palate and want it now.........all for less than $15. Git Sum!

I guess you have to like this kind of beers. So much acidity in this brew. Hopefully all this lactic acid is good for the gut flora...

UPDATED: APR 11, 2015 Bottle from 2013 at home. Clear orange/goilden with fast disappearing white head. Very sour lemon, grapes, gooseberries, spices, musty bread, some sourdough and funk, light hay, old white wine vinegar. Taste is very deep sour. Medium bodied with slick feel and prickly carbonation. Interestig beer, maybe a bit too acidic for me and a slight musty aroma, but overall not that bad.

Well that was a surprise. Expected something fresh and fruity and I have to admit that after a lot of focusing I could find some hints of apples and maybe lemon. It is sour and bitter. Color is nice, aroma as well but this is not my taste, not even for hot summer.

Botle from Bier Tempel, Brussels. Amber colour, decent sparkle, not much head. Quite tart and sour. Sweetish. Nice, but to me didn’t quite have the depth of fruity and funky flavours that you get from the best gueuzes.

Large bottle from wholesae market. Lively multidimensional nose with noticeable barnyard and sweat. Fore weighted palate with sour flavors. Lenghty flavors with balanced ending.

Golden colour with minimal fizzy head. Aromas of vinegar, musty and funky timber, with pureed apple. The taste is mouth puckeringly sour - apple cider vinegarand lemon predominantly. Highly acidic and dry finish. Not really my thing.

Corked and caged bottle split two ways. Hazy dark golden pour with some lacings. Lots of funk, balanced acidity, barnyard, apple skin, vanilla and some oaky notes. Pretty good!
