COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Gueuze is an appellation controlee : its label is protected. It is also known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. The different lambics are carefully selected by the brewer to obtain a perfect flavour. After it has been produced, Timmermans Oude Gueuze, which is refermented for four months in the bottle, continues to improve for 20 years.

Purchased from Leary’s, the Amesbury location, yesterday afternoon. $19.00 ($18.95 + $0.05 container deposit) for the 751 mL bottle. To stumpy, ultra-clean white wine glass, it pours an mellow apricot (dark yellowish orange)-tinted marigold with which a quickly diminishing snowy owl white head 1 pinky nail in length stood. So far so good. On backside of label, it reads: "Produced on: 26/02/14". Perhaps I should have waited, but I’m curious. To hell with it. A. Aromas of papaya/pawpaw, honeydew melon, sidewalk chalk (very prevalent in these oudes, I’d say), chopped chives, stale pineapple juice, exercise perspiration, celery, horse blankets, pickled pears, and pizza sough. T. It is just how I expected it: Tastes the same with the addition of acidulated malt/lactic acid, young oak, unripe kiwifruit, grits, and mashed plantains. Waterier than had anticipated. Stomach acid, puke funk and a hint of sea salt experienced by swallow.

Bottle @ Gnoff. Pours hazy yellow with a small frothy offwhite head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sour and funky with crackers, lemon juice, grapefruit juice, green apples, dry soil, hay, horse blanket, barnyard and lemon zest. Taste is sour with crackers, lemon juice, grapefruit juice, yuzu juice, green apples, hay, dry soil, minerals, horse blanket and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is dry, tart, mouth puckering and light to medium bodied. Finish is sour with crackers, citrus juice, green apples, hay, dry soil, minerals and lemon zest. Nice bretty complex nose but the taste is all citric acid centered.

Bue en bouteille de 37,5cl. Les gueuzes ne sont vraiment pas mon style ;) Très acidité, finale sur la pomme non sucrée.

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. It poured a hazy golden color with a white head. The aroma was of yeast, citrus and some sourness. The taste was of sour with lemon and a touch of white wine. Decent.

Bomber from Supermarket Liquors. Appearance: slight white head that is gone instantly, poor lacing, gold yellow, clear, Aroma: leather, grapes, tart funky fruity yeast, light diacetyl. Palate: light body, soft carbonation, dry finish, crisp, puckering. Taste: sweet grapes and fruity yeast that goes almost immediately into very tart/sourness of sour green apples, puckering even. Finish is residual tart and fruity sweet. Overall, much more tart than I was expecting, extremely good, very well balanced. Much enjoyed.

Small white head, yellow marigold, slightly cloudy. Smells musty, acidic. Very sour. Medium body, highly acidic, quite highly carbonated. Quite decent, not super well balanced.

Bottle at home (brewed 2010, bottled 2013). Pours a hazy yellow with a small white, fizzy, fast disappearing, head. Sour aroma of barnyard, yeast, lemon. Taste is sour, bit of lemon. Sour, dry aftertaste. Nice, but a bit too much on the lemon side for me.

Bière pétillante et très sûre. Il manque un brin de complexité, de ce petit côté sauvage qui se développe lorsque le liquide se réchauffe. C’est bon, ça se boit définitivement bien, mais je ne la considèrerais pas comme une grande bière.

Bottle. Hazy amber color, small head. Aroma is sour, barnyard, cork, old socks, herbs. Extreme Spur taste, nearly no bitterness. Just a tiny barrel aftertaste. Very fresh carbonation,
