COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Gueuze is an appellation controlee : its label is protected. It is also known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. The different lambics are carefully selected by the brewer to obtain a perfect flavour. After it has been produced, Timmermans Oude Gueuze, which is refermented for four months in the bottle, continues to improve for 20 years.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle. Aroma is moderately funky with some nice earthy barnyard funk. Medium light oak notes with some tropical fruit. Medium acidity with some citrus. Pours a slightly hazy, pale yellow gold with a fairly large, rocky, thin, white head that quickly recedes and disappears. No lacing or legs. Flavor is fairly acidic and somewhat sharp with some citrus but also acetic. Interesting fruit character with some apricots and nectarines as well as lighter tropical fruit. Funk is fairly light, but a bit earthy. Light oak notes. Some nice mineral notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright geuze but the acidity is too sharp for me. It’s amazing how much stone fruit character the beer has. Good mineral notes as well.

37.5cl bottle. Slightly hazy colour with a thin white head. Acid, fruity and leather in the aroma. Average carbonation and medium body. Taste is complex with sour notes up front, fruity notes after and finishing with bitter notes. Overall, a very nice beer.

0.375 l bottle @ One Pint Pub, Helsinki. Golden colour, head dies quicly, some UFOs at bottom. Well, this is different than the brewery’s more commercial sweet lambic beers. Very dry, yes champagne is never this dry. It burns your throat. OK, not as dry as Cantillon’s products but still very "oude". This is not for everyone.
