COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Gueuze is an appellation controlee : its label is protected. It is also known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. The different lambics are carefully selected by the brewer to obtain a perfect flavour. After it has been produced, Timmermans Oude Gueuze, which is refermented for four months in the bottle, continues to improve for 20 years.

This is one of the tamest lambics I’ve had. The strength of this beer is that it’s refreshing and easy to drink. The weakness is that it isn’t very complex or interesting. It does have lambic character, however, with plenty of sour grapefruit and some pine needles and barnyard funk. It’s just not as wild as the really good lambics.

[backlog] 02-02-16 / bottle at home. Funky, very sour. Lacks complexity. Still a nice sour beer/gueuze. I started rating my beers with Untappd and a few basic notes. Now I want to rate them on ratebeer. So my rating sometimes lack some information. Just ignore it, it is for my personal statistics. Untappd-Rating 3.5/5

At the MBR Sour Beer tasting. Thanks to whoever brought it! Pale misty yellow-golden body. Funky, slightly sweetish aroma, quite OK and true to style. Funky pickle water, extremely sour, in fact maybe the most sour beer of the night. And yeah, too sour, without that much complexity and good flavors as payoff. Eh. Better luck next time I guess.

Bottle. App: Golden orange with small white head. Aroma is of funk and yeast. Extremely (a bit too much?) sweet. Taste is of jujbe, white wine, grapes, and lemon. Full bodied beer. Lacks a bit in subtility but really good beer nonetheless.

Aroma:
Medium aroma of malts, wood, fruit, citrus and acidity.

Appearance:
Turbid/opaque golden/amber beer with a slight/medium white head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, wood and fruit; ends slightly bitter, dry and sour with citrus and acidity.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. A balance between a mild Geuze and a intense Saison. Really refreshing and pleasant flavour for a Geuze. Not artificially sweet, but simply not nail-bitingly sour.

Bottle from Bedford Brewhouse & Kitchen. Light gold, hazy, fairly flat. Earwax, overripe peach, lemon juice in the muted aroma. Sour, funky and harsh taste. Luscious but not the most mellow of lambics. Benefits from being enjoyed in small, slow sips. Thin but fresh, juicy palate. Minimal carbonation. Very nice indeed.

Bottle, 33cL. Home. A golden orange-yellow clear beer ; few bubbles ; medium white head ; poor retention. First, just after opening skunky nose ; ok after a few minutes ; wood, vinegar, barnyard note. Light sweet, medium sour with sharp sour dry waves ; thirst-quencher for sure. Light body, watery, soft carbonation, dry sour medium lasting finish. Overall, enjoyable. Slightly disappointed by this lack of carbonation.

Draft to taster Consummation: subtle horse blankety apple taste Adjunct: Apple and light sour aroma; peach amber colour, no real head; I’m missing the strong horseblanketeyness of a gueuze

W aromacie mocno owocowe, gruszkowe, trochę szampańskie. Po nalaniu piana szybko zanika. W smaku mocno kwaśne, słone, cytrynowo-gruszkowe. Doskonałe na gorący wieczór.
