Oude Gueuze is an appellation controlee : its label is protected. It is also known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. The different lambics are carefully selected by the brewer to obtain a perfect flavour. After it has been produced, Timmermans Oude Gueuze, which is refermented for four months in the bottle, continues to improve for 20 years.

Bottle as shown. Pours a hazey yellow with large frothy white head that lasts awhile. The aroma is citrus and tons of funk. Thin mouthfeel with a crisp tartness and lemon with nice sourness in the finish. Easy to drink lots of carbonation, a very impressive gueuze from Timmermans.

Pours a slightly hazy, pale golden straw color with a two finger, pillowy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Spots and streaks of soapy lace left behind. Pretty pale and almost clear on the edges but otherwise looks pretty good. Musty aroma with a prominent earthy barnyard character but it’s not too funky. Slight horsey character with damp wood, funky bugs, cobweb and lactic cheesiness. Dank basement and oak along with light fruit and citric acidity. Hints of apple and lemon peel sweetness countering the earthy bugs and lactic funk. Pretty tame/delicate by lambic/Oude Gueuze standards but still smells authentic. Tart, puckering and way more sour than I expected. Strong sour acidity but not harsh or acetic. Dry with crisp, champagne-like effervescence and a very strong citric acid flavor. Prominent lemon juice flavor with lingering acetic vinegar but its not solvent like at all. Slightly earthy and musty with a decent lactic presence but overall not too funky. Some light fruit sweetness as well. Feels like there is some artificial sweetners in there. Dry finish. Decent sourness but not very complex and the mouthfeel falls off toward the end of the palate. A decent attempt at the style but kind of tame(once your palate adjusts to the initial sour shock) and one dimensional.

It pours murky gold with copper highlights and clumps of lees; the head is off white and foamy. The aroma has notes of: barnyard funk, lemon juice, cashews, and blood orange. The taste is heavy sour with a medium saltiness; there are notes of: the aforementioned aroma notes and cracker. The palate full bodied, has medium carbonation and a medium finish. Overall, it’s impressive to see this caliber of beer from Timmerman given their track record.

Dark blond (5 EBC), light opalescent with a tiny dark white head. Aromas of ripe apple, citrus, faint quince, earthy, woody with hints of pear and some funk develop. Light lively with a thin texture and light body. Citrus sourness and tart throughout. Slick, dry lasting finish.

37.5ml bottle from Rehills Jesmond served cool in a tulip. Sour apple and cheese aroma. Hazy gold with a white head. Sour flavour with hints of Crab apple. sharp Lancashire cheese, rust and maple bacon. Didn’t get much Tropical fruit as mentioned by other raters. I felt distinctly underwhelmed in all honesty.
