The flavour of Timmermans Oude Kriek, refermented in the bottle, is without comparison. The cherries from which it derives its taste and colour it features traditionally come from Schaerbeek. Slightly acidic and with a wonderful bouquet, this natural and hence unpredictable brew requires careful handling throughout its long maturation period. Created from a blend of old and young lambic, Timmermans Oude Kriek keeps for 12 years. Like Timmermans Oude Gueuze, this is a precious drink, available in a limited edition only !

Bottle at home. Pours lively dark red-brown with not much head to begin, but one forms as the beer settles. Musty aroma, oak wood with a hint of sour cherry. Taste is very sharp with very little sweetness. Very sharply acidic with only a hint of cherry in the taste. Lively, crystalline on the tongue which slightly overpowers the cherry, but tart and refreshing.

0.375 l bottle from ’De Bierkoning’, best before 2024. Clear, deep red with a medium large, fluffy, rather quickly diminishing, pinkish white head. Sourish-fruity, slightly funky aroma of cherries, raspberries, some red grapes and bitter almond. Very sour, fruity and a little funky taste of cherries, raspberries, bittet almond, some red grapes and oak, followed by a medium long, very tart and dry finish. Medium body, spritzy, quite effervescent and very astringent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Too sour to be enjoyable. The taste is quite nice, but the acidity is overpowering and does not allow for getting more subtle flavours.

0.375 l bottle @ Bruuveri, Helsinki. Deep red colour, no head. Oh, this is very dry kriek. Like old lambic with sour cherries. Quite different from the usual sweet fruit beers. Even more dry than the other oude krieks I have tried so far.
