This beer has instant appeal thanks to the hue of its ancestral garb and its fruity aroma which is so pleasant to the nose. Its flavour – bitter but with a very slight sweetness – recalls how pleasant it is to drink a beer that’s saturated in history. Timmermans Tradition Kriek Retro is to be savoured in the same way that one beholds a painting by Breughel.

375 ml bottle. BBE 20/10/2012.
Pours a deep red colour with a small white head. Loads of bubbles. Aroma of sweet and sour cherries, honey and wet wood. Flavour of sour cherries, oak, honey and some earthy notes. Medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel and a dry, cherry-driven finish with some wood notes. Way more better than the non-Retro version.

Shared this bottle with benzai @ Café Buitenlust. Just like him i was surprised by it’s extremely sour taste. After a few sips i got used to it and actually appreciated this one. Glad he didn’t like it that much, more for me.

Martinus (2630) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - JUN 24, 2011
Colour of elderberry juice, light pink head. Aroma of horse, apple, malt, wet dog. Quite sour in the nose. Flavour rather sour (but not as sour as the nose suggested), pronounced berry, apple, apple vinegar, slight musty cork. Finish rather sweet.
Hardly any cherry flavour or nose in this kriek. Still, quite refreshing.

Test vom 30.1.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: -,9,11,10,-,10 - 10,00

Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - MAY 3, 2011
Bottle. Pours a transparent ruby body with a fluffy pink tinged head with faint retention. Huge potato aroma, dry earth with a hint of almond like bitterness. A bit nutty with a faint floral tone. Yeah very strange indeed. Flavor is more like wet paper then cherry tones. Watery thin potato skins vinegar like salad notes. Low acidity strange sweet syrup and acetic acid. horrid.

Bottle at the source. Hazy yellow color, scant head, no lacing. Aroma of lemon peel. Taste starts sweet and turns softly sour. Not much character.
