This beer has instant appeal thanks to the hue of its ancestral garb and its fruity aroma which is so pleasant to the nose. Its flavour – bitter but with a very slight sweetness – recalls how pleasant it is to drink a beer that’s saturated in history. Timmermans Tradition Kriek Retro is to be savoured in the same way that one beholds a painting by Breughel.

Bottled, thanks oh6gdx. Purple, small head. Behind the faint cherry syrup aromna lies some acidic tartness. Light bodied with sharp mouthfeel. Opens a door to lambic to the wonderful world of lambic for a brief microsecond, then it shuts, and you’re stuck with cherry syrup, tin and vegetables.

Countbeer (4752) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - DEC 30, 2011
Bottle: Medium and pretty quick disappearing off white to light pink head on top of a clear reddish amber colored beer. Smell hints of red fruit, cherry, older hops, some malts and yeast. Taste cherry, spice like cinnamon, yeast, a mix of sweet and sour, some older hops. Actually pretty good as the sourness is just a bit more present than the sweetness and thus this is not such a sweet Kriek... Older hops, yeast, sweet sour cherry aftertaste. Medium carbo, tingly mouthfeel, medium to lightly fuller body and a (light) watery texture. Pretty decent.

Dark strawberry red colored pour. Sizable white head with a pink tinge. Slowly dies down to a small layer of bubbles. A little bit of lacing. Smells like sour cherry juice with a slight funk and a bit of a artificial aroma. Corky flavor. Artificial sweetener taste with some slight tart cherry. Woody tart aftertaste. Decent.

(375ml bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clear ruby with a ring of fine white bubbles. Nose of cherry syrup, sugar, and tart. Taste of very tart cherries, bit of wood, maybe artificial sweetener (a bit bitter because of it), tart linger, not bad but a bit artificial

Bottle 33 cl, BA Mollberg, Helsingborg. Pours cloudy cherry red with a small ping head. Aroma is a bit sweet, vinous, cherries and rasberries, sour and dry. Flavor is very fresh, vinous, cherries and fruity. Very good. Finishes dry and fruity cherry.

Corked and caged bottle labeled Timmerman’s Tradition Kriek Retro. (Best before 11/08/12). Pours with a clear deep cherry hued body with a medium sized off-white head that slowly fades. Aromas of crayola, rotten fruit, vinegar, leather, earth, trashcan, cherries, some cherry pits, medium to high esters. Minimal funk. A bit dusty. Flavors are like sweet tarts...actually more like a war head candy. Very sweet and sticky mixed with an intense citric or malic tartness. Quite tart considering that it is back sweetened. Tangy, cherries, earthy, soil, light metal. Surprisingly unoffensive. Acidic back end. A bit bigger and stickier than I want on the palate. Medium carbonation. Puckering.

Sourish aroma with cherries which kind of reminds me about oud bruin style beers. Taste is close to oud bruin too, sour and cherryish. Fruit juice can be observed, but no signs of sugar whatsoever.

375 ml bottle. BBE 20/10/2012.
Pours a deep red colour with a small white head. Loads of bubbles. Aroma of sweet and sour cherries, honey and wet wood. Flavour of sour cherries, oak, honey and some earthy notes. Medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel and a dry, cherry-driven finish with some wood notes. Way more better than the non-Retro version.

Shared this bottle with benzai @ Café Buitenlust. Just like him i was surprised by it’s extremely sour taste. After a few sips i got used to it and actually appreciated this one. Glad he didn’t like it that much, more for me.
