A collaboration brew with Glyn Roberts (The Rake Bar), Hadouken is our Amplified IPA. A dedication to the classic finishing move from one of our favourite video games from back in the 90’s. Massively hopped with a combo of 3 American varieties.

Bottle from Corks of Cotham, Bristol. Lovely deep copper in colour with a decent, off-white head. Peach, tangerine and sherbet aroma with some grassy hops. Big, caramel and unripe tropical fruit flavours, with some solid, savoury malts, black pepper and a lingering, dry finish. Unusual.

Bottle - Slightly cloudy golden color. Strong hop smell, earthy and grass as well. Good hop flavor, weird taste, just different but really good. Best beer in Paris so far. Good hop flavor which is totally different then most beers I have found here.

330 ml bottle bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.

Looks: Clear golden orange colour with a layer of dirt like yeast sediments; Less than one-quarter finger head and residual soapy white foam which fades in 10 seconds; Fair sticky lacing with zero carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant Ale malt, with citrus peels, passion fruits, strong peaches, candied fruits, floral, honey, alcohol, light pine, resin, yeast and grass.

Taste: Medium sweet Ale malt, with fresh grapefruits, oranges, strong citrus peels, caramel, floral, molasses, pine, resins, light biscuits, strong yeast, strong lemon, quite strong bitter hops and fresh grass.

Body: Close to medium body; Quite slick and oozy palate.

Mouth Feel: Good Ale maltyness in a wheat-thinned, fairly watery background. Hops lean on fleshy fruity grapefruits instead of usual dull plain bitterness, plus some good oranges and citrus peels to boost. Moderate pine and ooze, sweetness is medium, quite well matched by strong lemon and fairly dry biscuity yeast. 7.4% booze makes its presence felt but not screaming. Good and moderate is the key here!

Hoppiness: Citrus peels, passion fruits, peaches, candied fruits, floral, light pine, resin and grass in nose. Fresh grapefruits, oranges, strong citrus peels, floral, pine, resins, strong lemon and fresh grass in taste; Bitterness is fairly strong and tasty for an abtupt, mid to high astringent fruit peely malty finish.

After taste: Quite dry. Fruity and fresh bitter to mouth.

Comments: For this IPA, mellow is the better word to describe its not so overwhelming fruity aroma, fresh citrus taste and fair piney oozyness. It really matches the Hadouken title from Street Fighters – wave after wave of hoppy attacks which won’t K.O. you at once but evidently got you suckered. Not great but pretty neat!

Brown bottle, 330ml. Pours medium pale orange with a hefeweizen light haze and a thin white head subsiding average fast. Scent is medium dense IPA with some surprising bitter/80- hints. Taste is medium dense IPA very much on the early bitter part but with American hops maybe. Mouthfeel is dry. Great beer. Excellent?
