Our ‘Maori Pale Ale’ came together after months of experimentation with a very unique hop – Nelson Sauvin from New Zealand. Strong grape flavours are complimented by the sweet Munich malt, makings this beer crisp and refreshing.

Lively golden beer with a thick, foamy head. It has a strong grassy with a hint of lemon. The flavour is initially sharp and bitter, followed up by a light fruit flavour along with a surprising malty twist. It’s bubbly in the mouth and the aftertaste is lasting and bitter but quite light.

(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 10 March 2014) Hazy golden amber colour with brief, white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of peaches, biscuity malt, citrus and grass. Fruity, malty taste with peaches, biscuits, grass, citrus and fresh floral hops in a fairly dry finish with a generous bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Fresh and tasty. Nice one.

Bottle. Pale clear liquid, small head. In aroma mainly hops - the distinctive notes of nelson sauvin - grapes, citurs. In taste fruity, also some malts notes appear. Light body, the beer is little watery. Medium bitter finish. Not a fan of NS hops but this beer is nice drink.

0.33 bottle, served in snifter. Pours with generous, white head, but seems overcarbonated. Aroma consists mostly of exotic fruits, mango, kiwi. Generally resembles multivitamin juice :) There is modest malty aroma as well. Its very different from US hops for sure. Color is pale to golden, hazy. Bitterness is very soft along with short finish and some sweetness. Contrary to what I expected, its properly carbonated, rather light bodied with some pleasant, exotic aftertaste. Overall, its a good beer to get familiar with NZ hops, but bitterness is definitely disappointing for me. I expected more of it even if its APA.

330ml bottle. Pours a fairly clear medium gold, with a moderate off-white head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. Passionfruit, melon and mango hops notes sit over fairly light biscuit malt to create the aroma. Crisp passionfruit and kiwifruit hops up front soften into mango. White toast malt gives it a fairly light feel in the mid-palate, with kiwifruit and melon hops to finish. Nelson Sauvin is so often used for hop bomb IPAs, and with good reason, but it’s nice to see it toned down a little here, letting the flavour come through without as much aggressive bitterness. A very nice, quite restrained APA.

Fruktansvärt fruktig i både arom och smak. Bra fyllighet och balans i smak och kropp.

330mL bottle. Pours a straw/golden hue with a big foamy white head. Has a nice grape/citrus zest aroma, similar in the flavour. The hops dominate and i’m not getting much of the malt. Very nice change.

Bottle, Londis, Penny Lane, Liverpool. Amber pour with a tidy off white head. Fragrant herby hop, fruits and sweet malt in the nose. The flavour ploughed a similar furrow and made good use of the Nelson Sauvins with some tasty tropical fruit and kiwi notes giving way to some pleasing bitterness. A pleasantly drinkable surprise. Best thing to come outta Newport since the GLC!
