Draft at the brewpub after the Hand Farm release. Poured a dark brown body with an average sized foamy light beige head. Aroma is wet smoke, light chocolate, dark toast and dark fruit skins along with a touch of pork skin. Body is creamy overall for a smoked beer with a medium mouthfeel, and average carbonation. Flavor is the same as the aroma where the smoke is obvious but doesn’t over power the under lying notes. This is another winner from TH.

Growler. Pours a deep brown with beige head and lacing. Nose is smoked meat, pine and some faint cocoa. Interesting taste. The smoke hints you up front a little but a pretty mellow finish of chocolate. I’ve never been a big fan of smoked beers and the aroma was a little off-putting but this is pretty solid.

Tap at Tired Hands. Reddish dense foam. Deep near black pour with cola highlights. Good tan lacing. Odd aroma. A bit poopy, toilet, strange. Taste is silky, roasty, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, lactic finish. As it warms, the melted chocolate character becomes quite excellent. I never got a smoked character out of this or even big pine. It was chocolate heavy, earthy bitter. Good despite the unfortunate poopy aroma.

dark chestnut, thin cream head that drops to a ring and oily cover. Super earthy, mineral nose shows dirty hay, toast, clay and dough sweetness. Incredibly toasty and dry flavor up front, light caramel, burnt grains following through husky, mild-profile like finish, tongue walloped by toast notes and lightly oily pine hops.

On tap at Tired Hands. Pours a very dark brown. The nose is heavy on pine with a touch of light smoke in the background. Flavor is pine and roast. Faint smoke and a lingering bitterness. Quite nice.

Draft in Ardmore, pours brown with small to medium off white head. Nice lacing patterns. Aromas and flavor are very rye forward with some other notes of smoked malt, pine..more from the hops then the needles, and other light citrus. As it warmed, I was able to get a dusty cocoa flavor. Medium to fuller bodied. Not really my thing but decent.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 Dark brown body, moderate pale tan head, decent creamy lacing. Nose shows pine needles, some light smoked malts, dark fruits and traces of resinous hops. Flavor with a smoked wood quality taking over and pushing the other notes to the background. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation. Lingering smoky finish.

Pours dark brown/black with a thick tan head...as always good retention and lacing. Aroma has very nice smoke...campfire like...with touches of cocoa and pine. Flavor has great roastiness and smoke with burnt and cocoa notes...pine brings in nice bitterness that works well with the burnt notes. Mouthfeel is full and the finish is piney/burnt and lingering.

Draft at the source with Linh. Pours a deep brown with amber coca cola tint and crazy white lacing. Aroma is smoke, funk, wood and dark fruit. First impression I assume I’m not going to dig this but it definitely grew on me. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of oak, smoke, fruit, light bitter pine and funky citrus. Such a bizarre blend of flavors, but overall well balanced which makes it work.
