375ml bottle pours dark brown black with a finger of tan head. Nose is rustic earthy dirt, red grape, dark cherry, vinous, light funk, dusty ash, char. Taste has nice complexity with dark fruit, raisin, vinous grape and oak, soil, woody, charred buiter dry chocolate and semi sweet dark fruits. Finish is a mixture of flavors back and forth from oaky vinous grape and dusty bitter chocolate ash. Interesting and fun to drink but never felt quite cohesive from start to finish on the palate.

Dark brown color, near black, with small brownish head. Very nice aroma, dark malts aroma, peppery, woody. Good dark chocolate and roasted malt flavor, a bit spicy, woody, tannic, less acidic and more balanced than the Prunus.
Excellent.

Craft Clerkenwell. Bottle tasting. Thanks to Bruce, Dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is very light and mildly crisp. Nice level of tartness. A bit of Flemish red character here. Well integrated mild dark malts, whisper of dark chocolate. Mild vanilla oak. Light finish brings a touch of balsamic. Hangs together very well indeed.

Scopey (7404) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 1, 2014
Bottle big thanks to Bruce. It pours near black with a medium tan head. The nose is soft, funky, jammy berry, raspberry pip, toast, earth, umami/seaweed and vanilla. The taste is bitter-sweet, spice, vinous, roasted malt, cocoa, berry, lactic, vanilla, cherry skin, vinous and some acidity. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Really nice jammy berry aspect to it. Interesting and good depth. Nice.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Bruce. Pours rich brown with a frothy tan head. Tangy dark malts on the nose with notes of cocoa, leathery fruits, moderate funk. Medium sweet flavor with more leathery dark fruits, some earth, currants, dark breat, chocolate, figs. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Well balanced on the finish with an enaging vlend of tangy dark fruits and cocoa, with balancing earthy bitterness, burnt wood. Wonderful beer.

Bottle courtesy of Jean and Colin. Thank you! Pours blackish dark brown with a thin beige head that leaves lots of trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is slightly sour, malty and fruity with roasted malts, dark bread, toffee, sour cherries, blackberries, raisins, red wine vinegar, moist soil, moist wood, leather and orange zest. Taste is slightly sour, malty and tiny fruity with dark bread, caramel, toffee, slightly roasted malts, lemon juice, moist hay, moist wood, butterscotch, dark grapes, moist soil and orange zest. Mouthfeel is soft, round, slightly dry, slightly tart and medium to full bodied. Finish is sour and slightly malty with roasted malts, toffee, burnt caramel, moist wood, sour cherries, moist hay, leather, blackberries, walnuts and orange zest. Quite amazing... Thank you for this treat!

Bottle sent by Jim awhile ago. A: Inky black with a thin mocha head. N: Leather, pinot noir grapes, tobacco, cocoa, coffee, lemon zest, caramel, oak, sulfur, apples. T: Sour, then bittersweet. M: Medium body. Sticky. O: An interesting sweet/sour concoction wherein I prefer Prunus. For a black saison, this isn’t too shabby, that’s for sure.
